Thieves stormed the First State Bank of Wenona on a Thursday during a funeral, forcing staff and customers to the floor and fleeing with about $7,000 in cash and papers. Authorities chased the car toward Route 23, as bank president Lyon Karr and others were seized, threats of killing made but no arrest yet.

Harry Soper born in Devonshire England February 17 1844 passed away at his Putnam Illinois home Sunday December 14 1930 at age 86 years 10 months and 27 days. He came to Putnam at 18 and lived there 68 years. He married Maggie Moore March 28 1871 in Lacona Illinois and they had nine children. Survived by son Edward four daughters grandchildren two sisters and a number of relatives. He was a longtime Shipper to Chicago and well respected with a sunny disposition. The family note a farewell poem and request mourning not sorrow but love and remembrance.
