The Henry postoffice has been crowded since Saturday with Christmas mail. Lee Wright reports higher volumes, both incoming and outgoing, than a year ago. The rush has slowed some mail redistribution, but staff strive to maintain good service for residents.

New Dam Raises River Twelve Inches Since Saturday
The Tiinets River at the Henry bridge rose about a foot since the $3 100 000 Federal dam began operating on Saturday December 16 at Crewe Cover four miles south of Peoria. Readings by government observer Oscar H Davis show the river up 12 inches by press time with no rainfall or other changes. Ferry service at Lacon, suspended due to low water, is expected to resume as levels rise.

A G Black Wins Dredging Contract for Crow Creek Project
A G Black of Walnut secured the dredging contract for Crow Creek west of Henry as part of a land reclamation plan. Three bids ranged from 695 to 698 cents per yard with Black the lowest. The project, funded by local landowners, will move about 100000 yards of dirt and run under WPA supervision, starting promptly.

Thomas B. Weston aged 91 died at his Wenona home after a long illness. Born February 6 1847 in Pennsylvania he joined the Union Army at fourteen and served through the war. Survived by widow Lottie Oliver Weston and two sons Oliver Fay Weston and Ralph P Weston, with a daughter Daisy and two infant sons preceded him in death.

Harrison School presented a Christmas playlet titled She Wedding of Jack and Jill at Henry Gymnasium on Wednesday evening December 14. Students from Harrison and local schools performed with Agnes Stade at the piano and musicians Harold Klein Alvin Merdian. Cast included Donald Heinrich Peggy Ransom Nancy Heininger Daniel Schmitt and Peggy Herold among many others in scenes from Fairyland and a wedding tale with Santa and Mother Goose figures.
