St Johns Church Henry Namesake Parish and Early Members

The Henry parish was named St John s church in 1870 after the church's October 1866 erection. Early communicants included John and Ann Morgan Thomas and Sussa Davis Joseph and Barbara Juke and Richard and Maria Waterfall. Rev Father Howard W Brunmimitt, pictured, is the 24th priest to serve St John s, arriving in Henry in September 1951.

Excess Air In Spatland and Henry Sunday

Excess air was released Sunday from a new 30 inch underground gas line extending from Henry to the Goodrich plant north of Henry. Tests found no leaks between Henry and Peoria after air was pumped to 1.5 times normal pressure. valves opened along Route 17 Sparland and north of Henry, causing rumbling sounds as air discharged.

Car Collides on Main Street Henry Trashes Telephone Pole

Sunday afternoon collision on Main street near the Witesoda bottling plant involved a 1956 Ford owned by John Davis of Henry and a 1957 Chevrolet owned by Joe Schoof of Lacon. Davis said his vision was blocked by an oncoming car, causing him to hit the Lacon car. the impact knocked a United States Bell Telephone pole, which was sheared off. No injuries were reported.

Mrs Beth ena Pavey Ward Dies in Chillicothe

Funeral services for Mrs Beth ena Pavey Ward widow of Rev Walter Ward former Henry Methodist pastor were held at First Methodist Chillicothe. She died Dec 18 at Mahoney convalescent home Peoria aged 63. Burial at Onarga cemetery. Survived by daughter Carol McKnight son Philip, two sisters Charis and Katherine Strong and four grandchildren.

Butchering Day Feeds Homes From Mild Henr y Christian Church

In a 5 below zero morning the Henry Christian church held its annual benevolent butchering at the Roger Magnuson farm west of Putnam. Twenty men butchered 12 hogs 2 steers and 100 chickens. Meat goes to National Benevolent Association facilities in Jacksonville Illinois and St Louis Missouri.

Lostant Man Killed In Car Train Crash

William Mylembusch a 75 year old Lostant farmer was instantly killed when his car was struck by a freight train at the Illinois Central crossing in Lostant. Deputy Coroner Wallin Godfrey investigated. Mylembusch had recently moved into a new home from a nearby farm. He is survived by his wife.

Goodrich Henry Plant Announces Second Reduction

The Henry plant of B F Goodrich Chemical company cut five hourly and two salaried jobs on Friday December 16 due to general business decline. Total employees now stand at 80, a drop of 12 from recent highs. William Protzman, associate chemical engineer, is among those leaving. The reduction mirrors nationwide cutbacks across Goodrich and many industries. The Protzmans will relocate to Cavine California, where he joins his father-in-law in house contracting.

Ed Tomlinson Fracture After Barn Fall

Ed Tomlinson suffered a back fracture from a fall while throwing straw bales at a haymow door. He was taken by ambulance to St Margaret's hospital where he remains under care awaiting casting after swelling subsides.

A recent cold spell brought 10 degrees below zero in Marshall and Putnam counties. Three and a half inches of snow fell yesterday, boosting Christmas prospects for Sunday. Allen Tuttle, unofficial observer, notes warmer readings a year ago with no snow.

Henry Post Office Tracks Christmas Mail Rush

The Henry post office stays ahead of the Christmas mailing surge with staff working Sunday to move mail. Home deliveries and city routes were completed, extra help used, and peak volume hit on December 19 and 20 with many out-of-town pieces and packages ready for delivery. First class mail cancellations show the season’s heavy activity ending with 45,929 and 55,727 items processed.
