The newspaper will follow an earlier schedule for the Christmas holiday and again for the New Year holiday. The paper will be printed and mailed on Tuesday December 24 with subscribers receiving editions on December 26. The following week the paper will be printed a day earlier and delivered January 2.
Detective Joseph Harcar of the Streator police department was named president of the Kinois Valley Chiefs of Police association on December 11. Also nominated were Herb Klein Yorkville Win Prickett and Glenn Frederickson with Henry Killen and Robert Mizel as officers. Installation set for 6 p.m. January 11 at the Hotel Kaskaskia.
Postmaster Frank Stachewicz says it is not too late to mail Christmas cards and letters if sent promptly. He notes many residents have already mailed, urges those who haven't to send now, and aims to have all mail delivered by Tuesday December 24. He emphasizes clear legible addresses with ZIP codes for speed.
Al and Mary Mazzini of Mark received a photo and letter from Senator Edward Kennedy. The note praises decades of Democratic service in Putnam County and congratulates retirement after 38 years with the party. Kennedy signs warm wishes and hope they enjoy the enclosed picture.
Elmer Singleton, 57, of Mossville, was sentenced in Lacon to three to nine years for involuntary manslaughter in the June 22 shooting that killed Albert Thompson, 64, of Sparland. He was acquitted of murder and aggravated battery.
The Henry Township Board of Auditors met in special session at Henry City Hall at 5 00 p m Friday December 13 to appoint a Township Assessor Gary Hulin to finish the unexpired term of the late O P Child who resigned September 29 1974 The two year term runs until the 1977 Township election and Hulin will attend a School of Instruction in January for his new duties.
A candlelight and carol service is set for 11 p.m. Christmas Eve at Henry United Methodist with Henry United Presbyterian Henry Christian LaPrairie United Presbyterian and Saratoga United Methodist taking part. The Rev. William Stotts leads the host church.
The Henry Jr. Women’s Club announces its annual Candy Cane Lane tour on Thursday December 19 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Refreshments bake sale and a door prize at 9:30 p.m. The C B Cooper house is out. Tom Duke house at 503 Carroll Street is now featured. Tickets available from club members or at the houses.
Henry Public Library Board continues talks to buy the LaVern Snow property for a new downtown library. The board rejected a smaller post office site, and Snow indicated both the post office and adjoining building could be used. A meeting will decide the matter as the new post office near Main and Third Streets nears occupancy after year’s start.
Downtown Henry presents extended hours through December 24 with Sunday hours 12 to 5 pm. Coupons from this issue enter a final 25 shopping dollars drawing next Sunday. Santa visits Sears Catalog Store Friday 6:30 to 8:00 pm Read Bros. Saturday 1 to 4 pm Gambles Sunday 1 to 4 pm.
The Henry Public Library will be closed on December 25 and December 31 and January 1.
Contributions to the Henry Red Stocking Fund total $140 at press time. The American Legion Auxiliary Junior Woman's Club and Home Extension Morning Unit join the American Legion to aid holiday relief. Mail contributions to Henry Red Stocking Fund P O Box 14 Henry Illinois checks to Henry Red Stocking Fund. Baskets of groceries and toys will be distributed three days before Christmas to the city’s less fortunate.
Lawrence S. Lucas, 29, of Peru, is in satisfactory condition in St. Margaret's ICU after a hunting accident on the George Sendelbach farm near Henry. Lucas was struck in the back when his wife Donna, 28, fired at a deer after twisting her ankle. the incident is under investigation by Marshall County authorities.
Vandalism of outdoor Christmas lights reported across two homes Tuesday December 10. One suspect charged and jailed in Marshall County. three more teens face charges per Henry police department reports.
General Telephone Co reports the Central Office automatic number identification equipment will be activated at 9 30 a m Monday December 30. Private line customers can dial long distance without an operator, saving time while peak calls may require number confirmation. The Henry exchange improvements follow rural line deletions.
Marshall County residents aged 60 and over will attend a Christmas party at St Marys Center on Monday December 23 with a social hour a noon meal of turkey and dressing and a visit from Santa Claus. Reservations by calling 364 2125 by Friday noon are required and 1974 volunteers are invited with reservations. Menu for the week December 23 27 lists ravioli soup Christmas day no meal noodle chow pancakes and more.
Bill Mason of National Farm Broadcasters Association and WGN Chicago will speak at the Marshall Putnam Park Producers meeting on Wednesday January 8 at Edgewood Park Restaurant near McNabb. Dinner begins 6 30 p.m. Tickets available from MP Pork Producers directors or Henry extension office. Directors listed include Gail Carr Richard Kaatz Lynn Laible Rodger Marshall Walt Reichen James A Shanklin and John D Wilson.
A recent open house at Smith Flower Shop celebrated the Christmas annex opening with holiday floral displays. Door prize winners were Wilma Pratt Mrs Jack Goodwin and Mrs Ray Bogner of Putnam.
