Corn allotments prepared for Putnam and Marshall counties
Lester Leigh of the Marshall Putnam Soil Conservation Association announced that 1939 corn allotments for Putnam County will be finished this week and Marshall County by next week. Acreage totals show Putnam with 24 823 corn and 43 990 soil depleting acres while Marshall has 67 793 corn and 122 804 soil depleting acres. Loans are anticipated to rise with many applications and samples sent to the state university for moisture testing before loans can be completed.

The Sternberg Dredging Company of St Louis offered the lowest bid of 72986 to rebuild and enlarge about 5.9 miles of levee on the Illinois River in Putnam County. Competing bids came from S W Hardwick Company of Beardstown 75154.47 and Harlan W Stanley of Detroit 80633.65. Bids had been rejected twice before and the Peoria office will forward them to Washington for award or rejection with a decision expected in a week.
