The Henry Red Stocking Fund asks for cash donations to aid 21 area families last year. Send contributions to Post office Box 63 Henry Indiana and drop children's toys at 517 Edward, clothing at 900 Edward. Donations support food baskets and clothing for needy families. Donors include American Legion Auxiliary and local residents with small gifts.

Putnam Board Reappoints Bill Pletsch to Conservation District
Leonard Bill Pletsch of Putnam was reappointed trustee of the Putnam County Conservation District by the Board of Supervisors on Monday November 27 in the county courthouse. The board also considered Mrs James Gleason’s request for a $1000 library budget increase to pay librarians better and pre catalog books as the county joins Starved Rock Library System. The next board meeting is December 1 when the county levy will be set.

Walter Boyle First State Forestry Award Winner
Walter Boyle, a down state 4-H forestry winner, was honored as Illinois first forestry award recipient. He learned tree growing from his father, sponsored as Marshall Putnam County delegate to a 1965 forestry camp, and earned a 1967 $500 scholarship plus a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. He has planted thousands of pines, logged many shearing hours, and plans to study farm management at the University of Illinois.
