Sparland notes cover church services and plans at Methodist and Baptist groups, plus the Steuben Rangers 4 H winners and local club activities. Events include Dec 7 Baptist Woman's Society bazaar, Dec 12 Home Bureau pot luck, and school field trip to the Lacon theatre with Rotary sponsorship.
A community birthday dinner on Sunday March celebrates Mr and Mrs John Van Antwerp and Mrs Jury whose birthdays fall on the same date. Guests included Mr and Mrs Carl Okerberg and Mr and Mrs John Jury. The event extended into the supper hour with the couple honored at the center of the gathering.
Canasta club members held a pot-luck luncheon at Mrs. Pauline McDonald’s home with Mrs. Maxine Lenz winning first place and Mrs. Mildred Schupp taking low. New member Mrs. De Glover joined the re organized club. Next meeting is Thursday Dec 11 with a spaghetti luncheon at Mrs. Neve Stanfield’s home. The Baptist church interior is being redecorated by Thomas Danhof and his crew from Lacon with church volunteers assisting nightly and a new lighting system being installed. Mrs. Veach Anderson returned from a two week Chicago visit with her daughters, Mrs. Eddie Caldwell and Mrs. Henry Thiede. Mary Louise Kearney of Chillicothe was in town on business. Peoria’s Sunday paper highlighted Margaret Kearney as assistant to the South Side Mission superintendent Miss Helen Haien. Mrs. Lillian Peintner was ill last week but able to resume home duties. Also note the minstrel show at the high school gym on December 7 and 8 at 8 o clock.
Mrs. George Wiley regains strength after hospitalization. Mrs. Nellie Powell rents an apartment in LaPrairie and plans to move in January. Local residents C L Monier and Ralph Monier visited Princeton. Harold Busgell family checked in at Mary Buasgell’s home. Minstrel show at the high school gym supports Band Parents. Elizabeth Riddell from Akron reports heavy snowfall. Mrs Hubert McDonald and three daughters head to Chicago. Wesley Marland and son return from West Virginia after a funeral. Leo Wallace and former residents attend a chicken supper at the Methodist church. Paul Nighswoer in Peoria visits St. Francis hospital with pneumonia from accidental poisoning. Swan son family and Eva Greening attend Ida Greening Wilson’s funeral in Bloomington. Mrs. Charles Swanson marks birthday with oyster supper. Eldinor Russell in Switzerland to spend Christmas. Mrs. Walter B Brown visits from Peoria. nurse who cared for Miss Taylor recalls church visits. Chicken supper and bazaar draw crowds from Lacon, Chillicothe, Peruna, LaPrairie, and Henry. Mrs. Claude Webber hosts at her home. Mrs. Ralph Webber away on business.
An early November social at Crow Meadow Presbyterian featured a pink and white gift table for Sharon Anne, daughter of Rev and Mrs Smith Jr. with gifts and a luncheon. The infant remained in a Springfield premature center, gaining slowly, with plans for home discharge after several weeks.
LaRosa Warriors edged Tonica high school 41 to 10 in a tight Tuesday game on November 28. Tonica led early before LaRosa surged, securing the win in a contested matchup.
