Harvest Festival Queen Crowning at School Dance

Judy Nichols, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Nichols, a junior and Student Council member, is chosen 1959 Harvest Festival queen. A prominent student on honor rolls and leader in chorus, she will be crowned at the festival with Anne Foster 1958 queen present, joined by court members and FFA escorts.

Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau and Oil Company Meeting

The annual meeting of the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau and Marshall Putnam Oil Company will be held at Henry Senachwine High School on Saturday December 12. A beef barbecue at 5 p.m. precedes business sessions at 7 p.m. with plans to serve 2 000 persons. Seven Oil Company directors will be elected for one-year terms and, in the Farm Bureau meeting, officers and eight directors will be elected for two-year terms. Free barbecue tickets available from Oil Company Insurance Service salesmen directors and the Farm Bureau building. Entertainment follows the meetings with children’s entertainment planned.

Thanksgiving Service Draws Large Crowd Across Churches

A union service held last Wednesday night by Henry Christian Methodist and Presbyterian churches featured choir music directed by Miss Bertha Caspers with Mrs. Lee Titcomb on piano and a sermon by Rey Roland Badger. The collection totaled $57 and was donated to UNICEF.

Christmas Week Events Planned by Henry Chamber of Commerce

The Henry Chamber of Commerce air committee outlines several Christmas week events. Plans include store openings on Dec 21 and Dec 22, a Community Christmas Sing on Shard Street, and a Santa Claus parade with prizes announced next week.

Henry troop holds court of honor for Star rank seniors

Henry troop at Henry-Se natchwine high school held a court of honor Monday night where Jim McCrosky and Steve Brumm earned the Star rank. Assistant Scoutmaster Charles McCrosky and Scoutmaster John Ewan led the ceremony and many Scouts received Tenderfoot and Second Class badges.

Darlene Dawson is Laid to Rest at Putnam Cemetery

Miss Darlene Dawson, longtime nurse born August 19 1892 in Wheatland Township Bureau County, laid to rest in Putnam cemetery after funeral at Putnam Christian Church. Pastor Rev Evigene Stipe officiated with music by Mrs Lawrence Daniels and Mrs Richard Anderson, pallbearers listed. survivors include sisters Mrs Harry Finley and Mrs Harold Condit and brother Curtis L. Wright Receives Master of Science Degree in Agriculture

Bruce H. Wright of Saratoga Township graduates with a master of science in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois. Diplomas mailed Dec 1. Wright completed a general agriculture bachelor's in 1958 and worked on his master’s thesis titled Prie ne and Trading Bracticeutee Grain the North Central Region. He served six months in the Army Reserve in 1960 and plans to seek a farm economics position in grain marketing.

Hennepin Approves School Bond Issue

Voters in the Hennepin grade school district approved a 75 000 bond by 115 to 14 to add four classrooms to the Hennepin school. The plan aims to ready the new wing for the September opening. the Putnam County Bank is the low bidder at 3.8698 percent interest.

Blood Bank Drive Seeks Renewed County Support

Santa Claus Parade Crowds Enjoy 1300 Candy Bags

Santa distributed 1300 bags of candy after a parade featuring 17 units and five bands. Floats were entered by local churches and Saratoga 4-H with cash prizes from the Chamber of Commerce. Santa rode a pony provided by Leonard Hufnagel as Be Milo and other groups performed.

Three New TB Cases In MP Counties

Mrs. Alme Guimond of Henry reports provisional Waols Public Health figures show 3,330 Illinois tuberculosis cases in 1959, with three in Marshall Putnam counties. She notes many infected lack active disease and cites school tuberculin tests finding 30 reactors.

Carr Bros Win Top Honor at International Exposition

Hampshire breeders Carr Bros of McNabb won the grand championship at the International Live stock Exposition in Chicago. Their lightweight Hampshire hog weighed 200 pounds live and 161 pounds dressed, with a loin eye of .97 inches and 14 inches of backfat. Oscar Anderson & Son showed the reserve champions in both on hoof and dressed classes. Duane Carr led the champion to Chicago, with the Carr Bros also placing third in the middleweight Hampshire class.
