Angelus Display Wins First Prize in Old Settlers Parade
The winning float at the Old Settlers Day parade in Lacon portrayed The Angelus by Jean Francois Millet. Painted in 1837 and later sold for 160 dollars, the work is now in the Louvre. The Rainbow Class of the Lacon Congregational church sponsored the float with Mrs Louis Fons and her son Lyons Fron portraying the characters. Background landscape by Philip Sandberg. J.D. Last Rites Friday For Herman Hagen
Funeral services for Herman Hagen 86 who died unexpectedly Tuesday Aug 23 were held at 10 am Friday at the Green funeral home in Henry. Interment followed at Prospect cemetery in Dunlap. He was born December 3, 1868 in Virchen Germany and came to the United States, later dealing with farming and race horse care in Henry and at the Marshall Putnam airfields. Surviving are four cousins from Peoria.

More than 60 percent of 675 new common battery telephones for the Illinois Central Telephone Co are installed in Henry. The switch to common battery is set for fall with the new switchboard arriving this week. In homes and businesses, callers hear rings on the new set while talking on old phones. Rural areas will switch over in about 18 months. Extra crews, including Al Fountain, Guy Crull, Robert Wilson, and Ray Perry, speed the project.
