David D. Gill of General Telephone Co reports August statements for Henry customers mislabel the Henry Business Office as payment location. The Henry office closed. payments go by mail or in person at the Chillicothe Business Office. Billing now from General Telephone's Bloomington Center with Chillicothe as payment point.

Fulbright Grant Sends DePaul Scholar to Thailand Lectures

Miles W. Dunnington Ph.D. associate professor of political science at DePaul University has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays grant to lecture in Thailand. He will teach at Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat University in Bangkok. Living in Henry Illinois, he joins a program to foster cultural exchange and strengthen US international ties.

Social Security Checks Arrive One Day Early

Social security checks will be delivered on Saturday September 2 to 20 million recipients to avoid Labor Day weekend delays. Postmaster General Lawrence F. O'Brien announced the Treasury and Social Security Administration arranged the shift with the Post Office Department. Envelopes with printed instructions and Postal Bulletin notices guard against holdover or confusion for the earlier delivery.

Edgar Wink of Wenona picked up a CB radio message while crossing the Henry bridge Monday afternoon. A woman enroute to Spring Valley hospital provided a Henry phone number to reach her neighbor who would contact her husband and take their daughter for X rays. Sheriffs Dog Lost Again Watch For Him

The fine German shepherd once rescued near Wenona and befriended by Sheriff Moe Berg is missing again after escaping from Albert Prestin. The dog now wears a 14 foot chain leash and may be in danger if it becomes entangled. Prowl cars search the area between Wenona and Lacon. residents urged to look for the dog.

Fr Hussey Promoted to Vocation Director for Central Province

Fr Michael Hussey of Kings House is named Vocation Director for the Central Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He will transfer to St Paul Minnesota with an office at Oblate College in Carthage Missouri. He has served as athletic director and coach at St Marys School and aided local youths.

Public Defender Appointed in Marshall County Murder Case

Public Defender Jack Brunnenmeyer of Peoria was appointed Monday in Marshall County Circuit Court to represent Helen Dawson Sparland 29 who is jailed without bond on a murder charge in the Aug 19 killing of her husband Donald Dawson in Sparland. A preliminary hearing is set for Friday Sept 1. Judge Edward Haugen presided and also fined Le and L Steen 19 rural Henry 25 dollars and costs for speeding and starting a motor in an unsafe manner.

Henry City Considers 44 Low Rent Housing Units

Henry City Council heard Andy Fox of the LaSalle County Housing Authority outline plans for 44 low cost housing units in Henry. The mix targets 60 percent for low income families and 40 percent for elderly residents, with eligibility linked to income, assets, and public aid rules. Fox argued the project won't depress values and noted federal money dependence, local planning, and expected growth in nearby units and demand.

Bloodmobile at H S School Gym Thursday August 31

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Henry Senachwine High School gym Thursday August 31 from 12 noon to 6 pm. Mrs John R Monier in charge asks donors to come in the afternoon due to work schedules and use the rear door. Appointments not required. Donors may give every two months or up to five times a year.

Toluca Nun Outlines Chicago Summer Experience

Sister Rosalie of St. Ann's Parochial School spoke at the Toluca Rotary luncheon about a three month summer stay in a Chicago ghetto. The program Operation Push Up, funded by the federal government, employed 16 teachers and 10 college students to provide targeted help.
