Word reaches Magna-olia and Granville relatives that Clifford D. Hartman formerly of Granville has been advanced to lieutenant commander. He now serves at the naval technical training center in Millington Tennessee after earlier duty on the West Coast and aboard the USS Ashland from 1943 to 1945. He plans to resume practice at Sublette, Illinois. Mrs Hartman and daughter Donna Kay remain in Memphis.
Community groups and parents push for expanded school efforts and child labor reforms. Representatives urge keeping youth in education while supporting farm and light industry roles as part of building an educated citizenry.

Funeral services were held August 20 at Princeville Presbyterian Church for Aaron Roach a long time Camp Grove resident who died August 15 after three weeks in Methodist Hospital. Born March 3 1880 in Eureka Ti he was the son of Charles Roach and Mary Connell. Survived by brother Carl of Peoria sister Maude Peek of Santa Monica and nine grandchildren. He married Ruth Danhoff in 1901 producing five children and later married Sadie Tanner in 192? with additional children. He spent years in Peoria as a stockman traveling the region.
Frank Dean 74, longtime Magnolia resident, died August 20 at St Margate Hospital Spring Varley after long illness. Born July 28 1872 in York Coates, he lived with relatives after his mother died. Services held at Magnolia Methodist Church with burial in the local cemetery. He was survived by a son, two brothers, and a half sister.
Fragmentary list shows soldiers and attached post office care in San Francisco California and nearby camps. Names include Leroy L Naum Karl W Bush William Watkins Roy UV and others with censored or garbled details.
Henry residents and LeTourneau employees invited to Peoria R G LeTourneau Inc on Thursday September 6 for a Governors Day program marking ten years in Minors. Governor Green of Minnesota and Governor Rae of Mississippi plus Col Cross will address the audience at Woodruff Field adjacent to the Peoria plant.
The O D Phillips estate at Lostant, among the oldest on British Lane, was auctioned on Thursday August 16. The property, founded by Abraham Phillips around 1832 to 1843, was sold after his son O D Phillips death to settle the estate. Two tracts: an 8 acre parcel with buildings bought by William Neilson of Magnolia at 244 per acre. the unimproved second tract bid at 176 per acre by George Bell.
Mr and Mrs Jess Morris and daughter Jane move from Vepas Nevada to Caliente and ran a formal opening two weeks ago. Mrs Morris, formerly Anna Fulks of Henry, has a background in retail. Morris previously managed a daily store in Las Vegas and served as a time inspector on the Tonton Pacific railroad. He is a Bradley Peoria graduate inology.
The body of Arnold Pitinga, about 27, of Knoxville, was found in his car in Sparland cemetery. Two Sparland ladies discovered the scene. Dr J P Johnson led an inquest at Varna, the jury returning a verdict of death by own action due to carbon monoxide. He had likely been dead several days. employed at Oglesby, with a sister in Alexis Illinois.
The old Wyckoff home at Wester Avenue is marked The Homestead. It recalls William B Wyckoff and Elizbeth Bainbridge buried in Henry cemetery. Living Wyckoff descendants include Edward Bainbridge Wyckoff and Mrs Scobie and Mrs Davis. Service members listed with two stars, Elm trees on property and antiques from New Jersey describe the historic house.
A letter from Edward J. Ryerson to Judge D M. Grege and Dr R L Eddings ton praises Marshall County advisory services. It notes a $29 261 000 revert to the State treasury from appropriations for the two years ended June 30 1945, the largest refund by any agency. The commission expanded assistance and local boards aided policy adaptations, with local officials using a Neher budget standard to request supplemental aid.
Laurhner announces that fall campaign in Marshall County will be directed by Tod Hager Henry and Judge I M Gregg Wenona as co chairmen. A meeting of leaders and workers is planned in September at Far on with Laurhner present to help boost the drive. Marshall County fell short of its quota last year and hopes for a successful campaign to meet or exceed the target.
Former Henry Pe baterion Church pastor Richard FE Pritchard now serves as a United States Army chaplain. He is stationed in Brooklyn and recently completed chaplaincy training at Fort Oglethorpe Georgia.

The Ford Edgewater New Jersey plant, active since 1942 in trucks jeeps and bomber service vehicles, begins civilian passenger car output on July 3 1946, marking its return to passenger car assembly as the first Ford branch plant to restart such production. The plant previously built over 130000 military vehicles and employed up to 3000 workers, with a remaining staff around 2000 as wartime downsizing continues.
Robert Stenzel son of Mr and Mrs Paul Stenzel of Wenona received the habit of the Franciscan Order at Mt Airy Cincinnati Ohio on Wednesday Aug 15 he took the name Father Duane Stenzel F M He studied at St Marys Wenona St Francis Seminary Cincinnati and will spend a year at Mt Airy before entering Duns Scotus College Detroit Mich in four years
Edward Damm led a delegation from Fairbury to the annual Townsend celebration in Fairbury honoring Dr. Francis E Townsend founder of the old age pension plan. Four thousand attendees from nearly every state heard speeches. donations exceeded four thousand dollars, with Illinois members contributing four thousand. Dr Townsend, nearly seventy, remains active and his son Robert C are poised to take leadership.
The 24th Marshall Putnam Fair will be held at Henry Field the week after next as a combined fair and victory celebration ending hostilities in World War II. Organizers expect record crowds with $25,000 in events and $4,800 in horse racing purses across four days. Ben McAllister and John Garvin lead the field and society horse shows, while Halsey Monter Sparland notes the plan for the biggest fair and attendance yet.
The Fair Association announces the secretary’s office at the fair grounds will open Monday September 3 and continue daily through the fair. In charge as office manager is Mrs Virginia Dauber Finnegan assisted by Elizabeth Herridge with telephone contact listed as 122.
E R Schaeffer a 47 year old sheet metal and furnace contractor in Lacon is jailed in Marshall County on a fraud charge involving Proto Wenk Sr of Lacon with possible appended charges for passing bad checks. He is held on a $6000 bond and has a police record. Authorities say he also defrauded customers at Henry and Wyoming.
A rummage sale sponsored by the Henry War Chest is planned for September 18, the third Saturday of the month. Location is not yet set. Donations and advance notices will help ensure a successful day with no evening auction and aims to fund Christmas gifts for Henry Community in Service boys and girls.
Forty hours of devotion at St. Joseph's concluded with Tuesday evening services after a Sunday start. Masses and morning prayers occurred Monday and Tuesday, with evening ceremonies at 7 30 each day. Fr. John Foster of Clinton Alabama led the observance.
The first Sunday evening union service will be held at Henry Methodist Church on September 16 at 8 pm. Services will continue at the Methodist Church for about six weeks and then alternate with other churches as in years past.

John Raymond Griffin from Portland Oregon returns home for leave after serving aboard the hospital ship Solace. He helped evacuate and treat wounded in nine campaigns including Iwo Jima and Okinawa where Solace crews handled thousands of patients across multiple evacuations. The ship features four operating rooms a pharmacy and is staffed by Navy nurses and hospital corpsmen.
James B McDougal of Riverside Illinois and former governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago spent several days visiting Henry. He spoke of duck hunting along the River and Henry and recalled old days when ducks were shipped to Chicago markets for little money. His family includes notable bankers and executives in Armour and Co and the Chicago Board of Trade.
S/Sgt Paul K Hunt completes 41 months service with 30 in the South Pacific arriving at his parents home in Spain as a civilian end of active duty. He trained briefly in the States then served with a bomb squadron in the 13th air force. The record notes his Pacific missions and points earned. He has no definite plans yet.

A posthumous Purple Heart and a certificate of merit were sent from U S Marine Corps headquarters to Mrs Betty Williams Schmitt in California for Pvt John Tay or Schmitt USMC who died in service at Iwo Jima. The certificate quotes Roosevelt and honors his sacrifice. the Medal will reach his wife six months after the war ends.
Sergeant Richard Bodulson of Magnolia Illinois arrived in the United States for readjustment after overseas service with the 7th Infantry Division. He saw campaigns in the Aleutians, Marshalls, Philippines, and Ryukyus and earned the Good Conduct Medal with cluster and Bronze Star with Purple Heart. In civilian life he farmed with his father and graduated from Magnolia High School.
