Lightning Hits Elevator In Freak Strike
A bolt of lightning struck the Turner-Hudnut elevator Wednesday around one o clock, damaging the roof and motor components and causing minor damage estimated at about 500 dollars. A small grain fire started but was quickly extinguished. The strike also damaged electric light wires and interrupted service from nearby transformers on the river front. Several residents felt a shaking shock from the bolt.

Large Henry Area Crowd Attends K of C Picnic
A sixth annual Knights of Columbus picnic drew a large crowd from Henry and nearby towns at Seat Park. A basket dinner was held at noon followed by a baseball game with Lacon defeating the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau 15 to 2. Rev Fr Walsh of Toluca spoke to the gathering and Red Williams' orchestra provided music.

L. F. Dawson Injured in Runaway Wagon Crash

Farm Folks Fore: gather For M P Picnic At Swaney
Between four and five thousand people gathered at the Swaney school grounds on Wednesday, August 29, for the annual farmers picnic sponsored by the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau and the local Home Bureau. Rain and active threshing rings reduced attendance but a carload limestone prize from Dolese and Shepard was awarded to Arthur Rehn of Lostant. Contests included weight lifting, car parking for women, horse shoes, races for boys and girls, with results listed for each event and participant.

Aukland Family Reunion Held Sunday in Wenona
Mr and Mrs J H Aukland hosted about fifty relatives on their lawn for a sprawling Wright County family reunion in Wenona. Guests included Mrs Mary Newman, aged 85, plus Newmans from Henry and Derby Kansas, Wichita Kansas attendees, and numerous aunts uncles and cousins from Illinois and nearby towns. A chicken dinner followed by group photos and later ice cream cake and lemonade capped the gathering as families dispersed after a day of conversation and reunion.
