The Marshall Putnam Farm and Home Bureau annual picnic and outdoor sports festival drew about 6 000 attendees at the Marshall Putnam Fair Grounds west of Henry. Rev Father Casey of Toluca chaired the sports, WMBD artists entertained, and races and contests followed including Tug o War won by La Prairie team, softball by Evans, baseball Henry county over Marshall Putnam, and various children's events.

Clark Ball 68 lifelong Henry area resident died suddenly Wednesday morning from a heart attack. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 pm from his residence with Rev. W J Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Henry Guy Cemetery. Survived by widow and four children Orville Ball Alden Snyder Harold Ball and Mrs Florence Bell.

Doyle Cattle Bring 18.10 Per Cwt at Market
A load of 21 Hereford cattle sold Wednesday for 18.10 per hundredweight to Roland Doyle, Henry five stock feeder. Cattle averaged about 1270 pounds, within 15 cents of the day’s top market. Doyle previously sold 41 head and still has 144 head in the feed lot.

Biggest Tow Boat On River Passes Tuesday
The Herbert Hoover of Federal Barge Lines, the largest tow boat on the Illinois River, traveled past Henry on Tuesday afternoon. It powers 2,200 horsepower diesel engines hauling six barges with about 3,000 tons each, totaling over 18,000 tons, the largest tow seen there. Freight was loaded at St. Louis and bound for Chicago, with wheat and sulfur aboard. the Roosevelt was initially used as tow but the Hoover substituted for more power.

Fair Grounds to Receive Major Paint and New Buildings
Marshall-Putnam Fair Grounds undergo a major upgrade ahead of the 16th annual M.P. Fair to be held September 1 through 10. Over 150 gallons of paint will whiten all structures, with eight workers starting work under Roy W. Miller and more crews to come. Three new buildings include a race horse barn for 40 stalls, a 4-H exhibit building, and a revamped pavilion, plus a community sales pavilion laid out by J. L. Kidd. Six new structures rise alongside upgraded toilets built by the Marshall County WPA as the grounds are graded for expanded exhibits and concessions. Officials praise WPA work and plan curtain partitions in the women’s division. The fair aims to showcase healthy growth and solidify Marshall-Butnam Fair’s rising future, with space for over eighty race horses and Illinois’ second largest racing meeting.
