Crompton Brother of Mesdames Burkhart and Wood Dies in Havana
Joseph Crompton died in Havana after several weeks illness. He was born 1869 and survived by his wife and three children including George of Havana and two sisters. Funeral services were at 309 North Pearl Street Havana with Rev H J Krughoff officiating and burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs Burkhart was in Havana at the time. Camp Grove Boy Nearly Loses Fingers in Road Accident
Joseph Fennell fourteen year old son of Robert Fennell of Camp Grove sustained severe finger injuries when a road grader caught his hand last Friday. Doctors feared amputation but the fingers are improving and the extreme measure may not be needed.

Two Peoria boys named Post and an unnamed companion were canoeing on Lake Senachwine Wednesday morning. Henry Baker driving an Essex coach north of town Sunday night upset while attempting to pass a Ford. A.J. Longman and Miss Elva Campbell, passengers, sustained bruises with Longman suffering a dislocated shoulder. Baker was unhurt and the car toppled but suffered only a bent fender and scratched top. Bridge Worker Crushed to Death by Two Ton Timber
David Hawkins 26 of Lacon died Tuesday afternoon when a derrick guy wire snapped while a Rock Island bridge beam was hoisted near Sparland. The falling timber crushed him instantly. a fellow worker escaped by jumping into the creek. A coroner’s jury ruled accidental death. Hawkins left a wife and three young children. Funeral arrangements were set in Sparland with several relatives in attendance.

Phillips family saved from accident by bumper
The Phillips family from Iowa and Nebraska were saved from a major crash near Independence Iowa Monday when a rear bumper prevented impact. They reported no damage to either car after being struck by a Mormon car traveling 50 to 60 mph and noted reduced expense and delay thanks to the bumper.
