Mayor John H. Wagner announced Central Illinois Light Co filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission for authority to lay a natural gas pipeline from Peoria north to the Goodrich plant near Henry. The proposal covers a 24 inch main from Willow Knolls in Peoria County to Henry TfL and Lacon and to develop gas distribution in Chillicothe Sparland North Chillicothe Henry and Lacon and surrounding areas.
Saddle weights for Henry area gas transmission lines are being manufactured at Henry using Redi-Mix material from Hunt Lumber & Coal. Weighing 6 684 pounds each, the concrete saddles encase 24 to 30 inch pipes to anchor them in soft ground and across rivers, with 700 to 800 units used for the Illinois River crossing at Peoria.
The Western Yeast Company of Chillicothe join sponsors for the Ist Marshall Putnam Outstanding Young Farmer project at the fair. Judges panel led by Ralph Wier will evaluate entries Friday at the Farm Bureau building in Henry. A dinner for the five finalists is set for Thursday 6 to 8 pm at Wilsons in Lacon with Jim Rowe and Mearl Jolliff as emcees.
Twenty one Miss County Fair contestants depart Henry at 1 p m Saturday in twelve convertibles with a police escort. The parade includes Sparland Lacon LaRose Toluca Wenona Varna Magnolia McNabb Granville and Hennepin before returning to Henry. Jaycee committees plan details for the parade and Monday fair competition.

Henry city council schedules a special adjourned meeting on Tuesday September 6 to decide on building a combined tennis courts and roller and ice skating area in Central Park. Dick Nelson of Elm City Asphalt offered a $3 964 000 bid for a 100 by 120 foot area with concrete curb and asphalt finish funded from sales tax.
The 39th annual Marshall Putnam fair opens Monday night at the fairgrounds with the Miss County Fair pageant on the first night. Tuesday is Kids’ Day with rides ten cents for children and a Trans World Daredevils show. The Miss County Fair winner earns 100 dollars, a trophy, and a bouquet and will advance to the state contest next January. Additional sponsors include Henry Chamber of Commerce and Toluca Garment Co. of Toluca.
Work resumes Sept 6 on Henry harbor with John Schulte of the Illinois Department of Conservation and Clifton Carrier as city engineer. A concrete slab from Route 29 will strengthen harbor walls, with about 4 500 cubic yards expected from broken old highway, needing 25 000 more in next session.
