Early Wednesday storm bursts caused Sparland creeks to surge washing out bridges and tracks. Residents like the McLaughlin and Olson families endured near drownings as mud and water filled homes, with railroad lines and local hardware stores among major losses across Marshall and Putnam counties.
Readers are urged to send reports of storm damage and losses for the upcoming issue. Include the extent of damage, estimated repair costs, and impacts on roads in their townships.
The Farm Bureau picnic will be held tomorrow on the Jin Swney campus three miles northwest of Magnolia. A larger program than before will feature speeches by Illinois Farmer editor and Iren WLS Chicago will perform. Music by the Tourer band and a 1:30 band concert are planned. The M.P. team versus Warren county will compete for northern Illinois championship. All are welcome.
A storm picture special will publish with many fine images showing flood havoc. Orders for copies should reach the office by Tuesday morning to ensure delivery.

Miss Florence Nichols of this city married Paul Brady of Chicago Heights in LaSalle on Saturday. Attending were Miss Anna Steele of Spring Valley and Abe Morgan of Tiskilwa. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs B R Nichols and will set up housekeeping in Chicago with the groom in the near future.
Martha Hall Jenness 28 died August 18 in Wilkes-Barre after a short illness. Born Bethlehem September 19 1895 she cared for her invalid mother then married I L Jenness May 27 1920. The service was held at Lakewood Congregational Church and burial followed.
An eight pound baby girl arrived August 15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wabel in South Whitefield. Both mother and child are reported to be doing well.
In severe late 19th or early 20th century floods, Henry suffers minimal property loss while the Rock Island railroad and a 60 foot steel bridge near the Quinn farm area are undermined by Crow Creek waters. Farther afield, Putnam and Bureau counties report washed embankments, drowned crops, and multiple bridges swept away, with 25,000 dollars needed to replace Saratoga bridges and repeated flood damage echoing a 22 year-old storm.
A surprise marriage unites Mrs Cecil Frisbey of Sparland and Walter Blame of Auburn Alabama in Bloomington. Miss Gretchen Schiffbauer of the city attended the ceremony. The couple will reside in Auburn after the ceremony. Mrs Frishey taught English at the local high school and is fondly remembered by students and friends.
On Sunday August 21 Chillicothe Legion will face Henry Griss et Pe vihon Park in Chillicothe. Chillicothe is an all salaried club and has defeated teams such as Kleins of Peoria and Carroll. Moline pitcher is starting for Chillicothe with Henry’s Baker on the mound and Wallace catching. The game will decide if Henry will have baseball and draws many fans to back their team.
