Dr. R E Davies a Spring Valley physician and surgeon will enlist and be made Major on Saturday August 29. He previously served 21 months in World War I as orthopedic chief at Camp Sheridan Alabama and at a Newport Virginia embarkation hospital. He is active in community work and civic groups in Spring Valley and is the third local physician to join the armed forces joining Dr Henry Jacobs and Dr Louis Slatin.

Sermon Sermon Singer Capelli to Lead eight day mission
Signor Mario Capelli, American Italian tenor and evangelist, will conduct a preaching singing mission at the Methodist Church in Spainland for eight days ending August 30. A former grand opera star, Capelli left the stage ten years ago to pursue Protestant church missions across the United States. He will perform Ave Maria, Largo, Negro spirituals, Old Rugged Cross and The Ninety and Nine among other sacred numbers.

Mrs. Emerick's Ashes Interred at Henry Cemetery
The remains of Mrs. Anna J Emerick of Alameda California were received by the Henry Cemetery Association. A vault was prepared beside her husband's grave and a bronze casket placed there after a brief Scripture reading and prayer. Undertaker R O Green oversaw the interment in the family lot.
Idlewild Carries 500 Passengers on Moonlight Ride
The excursion boat Idlewild carried about 500 passengers on the Moonlight ride from Lacon on Tuesday night. It departed late and returned around 1 o clock with 300 local passengers. Three handre and two young people got off at La orchestra Play for the dancers. Next excursion will be no Monday night. Aug ai.

Henry Henry to Lead City Scrap Drive August 25 29
Henry and surrounding Marshall and Putnam counties plan a city wide scrap collection August 25 to 29. Albert Barth chairs the drive with Arthur OBrien in charge of township areas and a depots set by the Barth garage Edward Street. Proceeds support USO Army Navy relief and Red Cross while paid scrap prices are offered for metal and vehicles.

Wenona Soldier AWOL Arrested After Camp Forrest Absence
Private Vincent J. Vincak of Wenona, 25, was arrested in Wenona after being AWOL from Camp Forrest Tennessee since July 6. LaSalle County jail held him while military police were notified and arranged his return to camp. Deputy Murray located him at his parents home and he was briefly held for processing.

Marcus Taylor, 67, long-time Toluca resident, died at St Marys Hospital Streator at 4:80 PM Tuesday after an 18 month illness. Born June 17, 1875 in Vernon, son of Frederick and Matilda. Survived by son Glenn Taylor of Toluca, stepchildren Leonard Hedrick Toluca and Clarence Hedrick St Louis, one grandchild. Funeral at Glenn Taylors Toluca home officiated by Rev Crabtree. The 160 acre Wenona farm of the Christ Stenzel estate has been sold to Mrs Ella Jones of Sandwich. She will take possession March 1 1943. Paul S Stenzel will remain on the farm to run the operation as part of the sale condition. Bonds add pep to Uncle Sam's step.

Funeral services for Miss Mary Louis held at St Marys Church
Memorial services for Miss Mary Louis age 76 were conducted this morning at 9 o clock in St Marys Church with Father M J Spalding of Chillicothe officiating. The body lay in state at Brennan funeral home until the service hour. Miss Louis long time milliner at J Watercott and Company resided with her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs John Fehring. She had been ill since an operation over a year ago. Pallbearers were Loura Will Peterman Ed Hoscheidt Frank Siewers William Heinrich and Otto Louis.
