Despondent farmer ends life with shotgun
August Kruse, 57, a farmer five miles northwest of Putnam, shot himself in the cellar of his farm home late Friday afternoon. A coroner’s jury found death by self action, citing temporary despondency over ill health as motive. He lived with his sister and brother in law, and was found by them upon returning home. He is survived by four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held Monday at Walnut.

John Allen 41 of Ottawa and former Magnolia resident was killed last Friday when a small gas engine jumped the track at the Herrick clay plant. He died at Ryburn King hospital. inquest ruled accidental death. Funeral held Monday in Magnolia with burial there. Allen was substituting on the engine rather than his regular electric shovel operator job.

Work finished on Lake Forest Gun Club structure in Henry within city limits. The frame building has nine ground floor rooms and six upstairs. Contractor John H. Ford of Henry led the project started April 15. Plumbing by Fred Merdian, electrical by Carl Rose. President Willian Clow of Chicago and treasurer Phillip Armour of Armour & Company oversee a 1000 acre marsh area along the Illinois river. Finishing touches by J. J. Green.
