Lacon Sparland seeks ambulance funding at Old Settlers Days

The Lacon Sparland Emergency Service seeks $22 000 for a new ambulance. City donation of 3000 is noted, with other private gifts. EMTs graduate Nov 1 and service will cover 5000 residents in the district. An EMT course starts Aug 26 at Illinois Central College and a Red Cross first aid course runs Aug 23–27.

Board rescinds Lavelle resignation motion at Aug 9 meeting

Henry Senachwine Consolidated High School Board meeting adjourned after rescinding action on accepting Superintendent John Lavelle's resignation. Lavelle had withdrawn his resignation. board vote stood five to one. Minutes show payments approved totaling 42 150 68 and various bids and agreements discussed for 1976 77 including Gateway Center attendance and electrical work postponements.

Henry Grade Board Regular Session Minutes

The Henry Grade School Board met in regular session August 9 1976 at 800 pm in the school office. Present were Robert Dogher Margaret Schneider secretary Tom Duke Eugene Kaliher Melvin Barker Jr and Allen Otto. Minutes of July were approved. Treasurer reported balances by fund as of 73176 Education 17139 85 Building 7625 18 Transportation 17415 44 Bond and Interest 19310 10 Municipal Retirement 116288 Working Cash 9785. Bids from Sealtest Interstate Bakeries and Saathoff Oil were accepted for milk bread and gasoline. Ruth Peterson of Mattoon Hine was contracted to teach seventh and eighth grade physical education and English for 1976 77. Meeting adjourned at 950 pm.

4-H Queen and King Named at Marshall Putnam Show

Julie Naumann 16 of Tomac rural area was named queen and Sam Ehrnthauler 17 of Toluca named king at the Marshall Putnam 4-H Show on July 29 at MP Fairgrounds. Julie is a Putnam County High School junior, daughter of Gary and Mrs Naumann. Sam is a Toluca High School senior, son of Joseph and Mrs Ehrnthauler. Finalists in the queen contest included Debbie McCullough Sparland, Nancy Bogner Granville, Janet McKee Washburn, and Carol Weber Sparland. Other king contestants were Kent McKee Varna, Terry Probyn Sparland, and Bryan Kunkel Granville. Miss Love Kay Price Joliet opened the program with The Star Spangled Banner.

City Council Approves Study On Pool Repairs And Parking

The council authorized Bering Engineers and Associates of Moline to study needed repairs for the 60 year old outdoor pool. Action on revising the 1970 parking ordinance was deferred pending findings on nearby truck parking options and noise concerns. Mayor Smith proposed a spectral census costing about 2000 dollars to unlock potential federal funds if population rises to roughly 3000.

Hurds Welcome New Y U S tudent Ruth Lundring

Ruth Lundring the Youth for Understanding student from Norway will live with the Robert Hurd family. She is from Sponvika near the Svinesund bridge, has a worker father, and recently graduated from her home school. She will attend Henry Senachwine high school next year after a party with local youths.

Fire and school notices in Henry area outline August events

August incidents include car carburetor fire near Ben Franklin store August 10 and a rescue for oxygen August 11. A tree and power line issue disrupted electricity August 13. Consolidated High School opens August 30 1976 with bus service and scheduled fee payments. Freshmen must provide birth certificates and physical exams.

The Marshall Putnam Firemens Association funds a fire training class run by Chief George Cermak of Normal. Classes occur Wednesdays on dates in September and begin at 7 pm. Republican Women To Host Coffee After Parade

Republican Women of District 3 host a coffee hour for candidates after the parade on Saturday August 21 in the Colonial Cafe hospitality room from 4 to 530 pm. Darlene Strong heads Unit 3 and will have a stand for political literature in front of the Place office building. All attendees will be welcomed by Darlene and the Republican Women.

County Board Meets in Short Session in August

The Marshall County Board met from 8 am to 11 30 am in August approving a contract with Gallianetti to repair loose brick on the jail south wall. The purchasing committee was authorized to buy eight jail mattresses. A resolution on Rt US 51 widening was adopted while farming land preservation rules were waved for a Roberts Township property in NW Sec 20. The next meeting is September 14.

Cook Industries Seeks Permits for Illinois River Dredging

Five construction permit applications have been filed with the Division of Water Resources IDOT. Public comment urged to Leo Meisel director Springfield before ten weekdays from release. Applications by county: Marshall Peoria. Cook Industries seeks dredging along the Illinois River west bank at Henry and Chillicothe.

Three Extension Courses Offered In MP Counties

MP Counties will host three Illinois State University extension courses for the 1976 fall term. Elementary School Science Instructional Strategies runs Aug 31 at Henry Elementary with Dr Robert L Fisher teaching for three graduate hours. Art Experiences for Elementary Schools meets Sept 1 at Hopkins Elementary, taught by John W Marlow for three graduate or undergraduate credit. Contemporary Programs in Elementary School Science starts Sept 1 at Wenona School with Robert Cramer for three graduate hours.

Physical Exams Required for Henry Senachwine Athletes

All Henry Senachwine High School athletes for 1976-77 must have a physical under LHSA rules. No student may practice until the exam is on file. Freshmen also require a physical per Illinois statute, with cards available in the high school office.

Senachwine Grade Set to Open August 30

Senachwine Grade will begin classes August 30 with sessions from 8 20 to 10 15 a.m. Students should be ready for pickup by 7 30 a.m with bus service home after 10 15 a.m. Kindergarten riders depart 10 30 a.m. Bus routes and staff assignments listed include Judy Stachewicz, Jay McCracken, Sandy Ziegler, Art Rodrig, Rebecca Gillett, Wendell Torrance, Dorothy Haun, Janice McBride, Dorothy Malavolli, Joe Clift and bus drivers Darlene Hartwig Barbara Pierson and Margie Torrance.

Henry Grade School Opens Registration and Back-to-School Schedule

Registration for Henry Grade School will be held Wednesday and Thursday August 18 and 19 with book rental fees of 10 dollars for kindergartners and 14 dollars for others. The schedule divides by last name letters with times plus reminders for physical and dental checkups for kindergartners and fifth graders.

Sparland School Registration Dates Set

Registration for Sparland Grade and High School students will be held Friday August 20 at the High School from 8 00 am to 12 00 pm and 1 15 pm to 5 00 pm and 6 30 pm to 8 30 pm Book rental fees are 12 for K through 8 and 15 for high school. Parents of kindergartners fifth graders and ninth graders are reminded of pre opening dental check ups. Regular full day sessions begin Friday August 27 with kindergartners in attendance.
