Henry High School Announces Opening Dates and Staff
Henry High School will begin Tuesday September 6 with morning classes only during the first week due to the Marshall Putnam Fair. Grade schools start Monday September 12. Kathryn Chandler will replace Frances Newland in commercial subjects and T A Baker becomes grade school principal. Henry High is accredited for another year by the Illinois State Department of Education with four year status.

A large committee in Lacon announces Old Settlers Day on Thursday August 25 with Walter Head as president and Melvin Schrock as secretary. Richard J Lyons Republican and Scot Wike Lucas Democrat will speak in the afternoon and evening respectively. River accident nets Raffensperger and Raley near Hennepin span
J E Raffensperger and Charles Raley, engineers on the Hennepin bridge project, survived a capsize in the Illinois River when high winds stirred four foot waves. Rescuers from construction workers saved Raley after he went under twice. the outboard motor was not recovered. A second incident saw a man from Amboy suffer serious injuries after falling from a bridge pier.

Fred W. Law Dies in Riverside Former Henry native
Fred W. Law 62, born in Henry, died in Riverside California after a stroke. He previously lived in Forsythe Montana where he ran a sheep ranch and later raised horses before moving to Riverside to operate an orange grove. Surviving are his widow an adopted son a brother and a sister. Burial in Riverside cemetery.

Former Lone Tree School students from Henry and surrounding towns gathered at Walnut Grove on Sunday August 14 for a reunion. About 150 pupils, families, and teachers enjoyed dinner and an afternoon of visiting with many recalling early school life. The event elected officers and plans to make the reunion an annual last Sunday in July.
