Eighteen members of Victory Circle visited Chicago on a full day tour. They toured the Merchandise Mart and its seven miles of corridors, viewed the sign exhibition by the Modern Art group, and toured landmarks including the Shrine, the Flower, and the Old Spinning Wheel. Henry and Sparland school bands under Prof Arthur Blocher and Rutland school band under Mrs Blocher joined three area groups in the State Fair band contest at Springfield Monday. The Henry 40 piece band traveled by bus with drivers Harry Morse Lawrence Newman and aides Mrs John Read and Mrs William Greek. Sparland’s Frank Bryden piloted their bus with Superintendent EB Jones along. Almost a dozen bands competed. ratings will be released after the fair. Beverly Jones of Sparland advanced to the baton twirling finals. The Blochers planned a California vacation and will resume teaching the second week in September. The Henry band will next head to the Eureka Pumpkin Festival late September.

Officials say the Marshall Putnam fair will showcase more than 100 trotters and pacers in four days of harness racing August 28 to 31.
