Navy enlistment outlook for Peoria district

Granville Gravel Pit Tragedy Claims Man
John Vignall 32 of Mark was instantly killed at a Lehigh Stone gravel quarry northwest of Granville when he touched a high tension line. Dr. Hartman stated death was instantaneous. ambulance took the body to Dysart parlors. an inquest was held. He left a wife and one son.

Mendota agricultural fair features strong stock poultry grains fruits and fancywork. Wednesday crowds divide the 2 24 pace into two races with 15 starters. Two Henry horses owned by H J Schmoeger and driven by A V Sundburg win second place. Royal Mac places second in three heats of the 2 24 trot. Ophelia Silk takes second in the first division of the 2 24 pace. The fair runs through Friday with a heavy racing card including 2 18 trot and 2 18 pace and many entries.

Marshall county assessments fell by 5.17 million dollars from 1930 to 1931 with total valuations dropping from 22.77 million to 17.60 million. Real estate led the cut reducing by 4.56 million while personal property declined by 609 thousand. Lacon Girl Injured Struck By Auto At Band Concert
Lillian Autzen nine year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Chris Autzen of Lacon is in Proctor Hospital Peoria in critical condition after being struck by an automobile driven by Robert Russell while attending a band concert Tuesday night. She suffered a fractured skull and a broken shoulder blade and her mother witnessed the accident. Her condition is serious but a recovery is possible.

William H. King born September 22 1857 in Whitefield township, son of Rudolph and Emily King. He died July 28 in the Omaha hospital after a two week illness following a arm fracture on July 13 and migration to Blair with his granddaughter Mrs Violet Johnson. He married Maggie Nestleroad in 1880 at Hastings and had one daughter who died young. survived by three sisters, one brother, two granddaughters, eight nephews, six nieces and many relatives. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week.
