School Starts Late August With Minor Staff Changes
A local school district schedules start for August 30 with a light first week due to Labor Day and the M P Fair. Hans Otto is promoted to Principal of the grade schools, with Mrs Newhalfen and Mrs Martha Soli guiding primary and early grades. Roy E Swanson 20 Dies After Auto Accident Injuries
Roy Edward Swanson died at Spring Valley hospital after six months of illness from injuries received in an auto accident more than a year ago. He was 20, formerly of Putnam and Ladd, survived by parents and three brothers, with a large extended family. Funeral services at M. E. church in Putnam were led by Rev. Lorimer of Princeton and burial followed in Putnam cemetery. Pallbearers were his six cousins: Clarence Elmeron Harvey Clarence Roy Larson Joyd Pearson.

Chicken Thieves Hit Two Henry Farmers for a Dinner Haul
Robbers stole about 125 chickens from Wilder Brown and Fred P. Ely on a Saturday night. Brown reported 75 Rhode Island Reds and Ely 50 Barred Rocks taken. A car was seen near Brown’s farm around midnight, with no clues found the next morning.

Funeral Services For Miss Peters Held Friday
The last rites for Miss Floretta Peters who died from injuries in an auto accident a week ago Sunday were held Friday afternoon at the M E Church with Rev W J Carpenter officiating. Mrs Lawrence Hunt, Mrs Gordon Downey and Professor Littler sang beautiful selections. John Snedden a Minonk barber was killed when the car he rode in with John Zika and Jack Manley wrecked after striking a culvert south of Rutland. Miss Armstrong state food specialist addressed a meeting in the McNabb M E church Tuesday afternoon with over fifty ladies present. Her talk on Food Facts Facts and Fancies was followed by a Home Bureau pageant Music for all the Family. A similar meeting was held Wednesday at Varna High school and Henry High School was set for this afternoon.
Baseball planned for Marshall Putnam Fair games
The Marshall Putnam Fair board plans a baseball diamond for September 7 8 9 with the Henry Greys or the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau team to play two games. The Greys seek a game with the Princeton Tigers for one day. The fair adds three bands Venona Toluca and Henry for the week. The farm bureau handles calf and pig club exhibits and township displays.

Woman Driver Loses Control In Auto Crash Near Sparland
Mrs W A Riddel of Chicago drove a Chevrolet sedan off the hard road south of Sparland plunging down a bank and turning over several times. Her sister was badly hurt and Mr and Mrs Riddel were bruised and shaken. They were treated at Henry and later rode the afternoon train home with the sister on a stretcher.

Sister of Mrs Jennie Garland Dies in Peoria
Mrs Albert Hunt sister of Mrs Jennie Garland and a well known local resident died at St Francis hospital Peoria last Tuesday of anemia aged 48. She had been ill for some time and two weeks earlier her nephew Samuel Garland donated blood in hope of a transfusion. Survived by husband four stepchildren two brothers Frederick De Roy Heywood Detroit Bernard Church Dunlap and three sisters Mesdames Elmer Bourdette George Deford Dunlap and Mrs Jennie Garland. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Dunlap M E church.
