Sparland township residents are noted for visits and gatherings with relatives in Lacon Peoria and Geneseo. The column lists guests, meals, theater trips, road work updates, cottage stays at Lake Senachwine, and church activities at Sparland Baptist Church with the Rev Raycroft delivering the Prodigal Son sermon.
Miss Lillian Shimp plans to relocate to Lacon later this month and will be joined by her granddaughter Miss Florence Wiley, a Lacon schoolteacher, who will reside with her.
Miss Mae Iliff of Normal Miss Bolton of Henry Mrs Horace Crocker of LaPrairie Miss Miriam Hacker of Peoria and Miss Emily Root of Chillicothe attended services at the Methodist church Sunday morning.
Dinner guests motored to Delavan on last Thursday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lillinbridge Mrs. R H Christman Mrs. Barbara Campbell and Mr and Mrs George Jenike.
A Sunday picnic supper at the boatyard drew participants including Messrs. and Mesdames W S Osborne L N Osborne A J J Riddell Mrs Edna Riddell Miss Elizabeth Osborne and Val Wenk all named in attendance.
Dinner guests in Lacon were entertained at the home of Mr and Mrs D L Watkin on Sunday. Attending were Mr and Mrs A W Watkins Miss Jennie Watkins T Van Antwerp and Dalton Jacobs.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Jones and Miss Neva joined Mr. and Mrs. Johnny DeWalt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Anderson and family, Mrs. Frank Anderson, Miss Talitha Anderson, and Miss Delores Anderson at a surprise party for Mrs. Levi Jacobs at her home on Monday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Roland Crocker hosted a group of Peoria women on Saturday afternoon and evening. The guests included Miss Audrey Masner Miss Mildred Stivers Mrs Catherine Herb street and Mrs Evelyn Barker. They were coworkers at the Kroger office in Peoria and had previously worked with Mrs Crocker before her marriage.
The girls of the canning club met Saturday afternoon at Mrs. Hunt's home. Florence Reynolds and Eleanor Russell formed the demonstration team. They canned pints of corn lima beans and succotash and made three glasses of mint jelly. The business session planned the club picnic.
The Misses Minnie and Nellie Tanquary with Mrs Michael Jacobs and Miss Miriam Hacker visited cousins in Pontiac last Thursday. They stayed with Mrs Carrie Wes ley Mrs Lydia Chapes and Miss Marietta Tanquary, shared a picnic lunch, and were joined by Joseph Scheeler who kindly escorted them.
Friends gathered Friday at the home of Mrs R H Christman to celebrate her recent birthday. The evening featured cards and cake with a green glass serving set given in remembrance, attended by Dr and Mrs R L Eddington, Mr and Mrs Roy Abel, Mr and Mrs W K Smith, Mrs Clarence Marshall, Miss Clara McGowan, Cynthia Vernay, Robert Barnes, Harold Thompson, Walter Head, Lacon Marshall, and Miss Lucile Livingston.
A Sunday morning worship service attracted a larger audience and several visitors from nearby towns. The notice also mentions an upcoming Gypsy Hike on Friday afternoon August 15 with full details to be announced Sunday morning. Rev Johnson returns from vacation this week to deliver sermons.
Miss Mildred White is announced to wed Leo Quinn on August 24 at the Quinn home near Henry. Guests enjoyed vocal and piano selections, a reading, a musical story, and games, with refreshments served by the Quinn household.
