Priés of Lacon named conservator of conservation for the state’s Lacon reserve area. Project aims at recreation and maintenance with phased administration. Area to cover about 3000 acres from Ward property to the riverfront with state and federal cooperation.
Funeral services were held for a man from Magnolig township aged three, with a large local and distant attendee list. The decedent, son of Joseph and Elizabeth, died after roles in the fair and community horse showing, survived by wife Mina Stein and many relatives including Otto, Tracy Titonka, and Mrs. Clancey. burial in St. cemetery followed a Requiem Mass.

Henry retailers announce a city wide Dollar Days event on Friday and Saturday August 19 and 20 featuring all merchandise lines. Ads will run in next week's News Republic an associated square dance on Edward Street after the weekly gift program at Heary Theatre.
Henry Senachwine high school fills its staff for the coming year with Donald Allen Smith of Georgetown Illinois hired as industrial arts instructor. A 1951 University of Illinois graduate and Navy veteran he replaces William Stairwall and joins new coach Russell Wittmer, science teacher Laverne Wiedler, and music instructor L R Broaddus.
Henry Senachwine high school has added life safety features to comply with Illinois state fire inspection orders. Walter Parker of Peoria coordinated the process, including an outside exit door in the cafeteria, new handrails, extinguisher markers, and additional safety measures.
Lt. (jg) John G Raffensperger USNR medical officer aboard the Carrier Hancock informs his San Diego parents that he will depart for Pacific duty this week. Mrs A A MacKinney and son Bil of Chicago join to accompany Mrs Raffensperger and Carolyn to Chicago, traveling via San Francisco.
Mrs Minnie Turner widow of Rodney Turner long time Henry resident died Wednesday at 4 in Peoria hospital after extended illness. Funeral services set for 2 pm Friday at Green funeral home with burial in Henry city cemetery. Friends may call after 2 pm Thursday.
The John D. Wilson and Frank Laible families host two Pakistani youths in Marshall and Putnam counties from August 20 for four weeks. Sadruddin Muhammed Inman Rashdi and Mohd Nawaz Khalil will stay with the hosts, speak fluent English, and bring farm and technical training. They are part of a four person delegation under the International Farm Youth Exchange, a private funded program to foster cross nation understanding. After Illinois, Rashdi and Khalil will move to New Mexico for further farm experiences through November.
The Marshall County Sportsmen's Club will hold a meeting Friday evening August 12 at 8 p.m. at the Legion hall in Lacon. Members are urged to attend as several matters of interest will be discussed. William Held president H W Ziegler secretary.
The botany section of the Peoria Academy of Science met Sunday at Henry Nursery for field study of ornamental plants. Corliss Ingels guided the tour and hosted guests at his home for a potluck dinner. Virginius Chase was part of the visiting group.
Henry Rotary Club heard Wilbur Romick discuss Indian welfare in Oklahoma. He described Creek Nation children in care at Bacone and outlined three care types, urging more funding and education to prevent poverty and city hardship. Local guests and recent Rotary trip reports followed.
Clarence Ely of Hopewell township received help harvesting 30 acres of oats on Tuesday July 12 during his wife’s serious illness. Workers included Bud Moore Kenneth Merle Taylor Ed Ely Norbert Lawrence Charles Fred Ely Art Hosler Lou Ely and Orie Fountain of Henry brother in law who also died in July. Mrs Bud Moore and Mrs Louis Ely prepared lunch for the workers.

Don Bauman of Eureka displayed his Angus steer Sharpy to the grand championship at the Section V FFA fair at the Marshall Putnam fair grounds. Mid County FFA earned 15 firsts as Ralph Daniels and others from Henry Senachwine and area schools claimed top placings across dairy swine and cattle events.
The Illinois Valley Expedition led by Stuart Struever excavates a Hopewell burial site on the Kuhne farm near Henry Illinois uncovering shell hoes and bone needles. High school students form the field crew for the first time in the project history under Dartmouth students Ryland Chase and Donald McNellis.
Mid County Unit District No. 4 confirms a full faculty for the new term starting Monday August 29 led by Supt L T Schubert. James W Kerns joins to teach biology algebra geometry and English at the senior high amid staffing changes. First two days are half days with an early dismissal and a revised 315 p m evening bus schedule.
Marshall Putnam ASC office seeks 300000 bushels for corn storage while 800000 bushels are already available under price support in two counties. Additional bins and ship orders are expected to cover remaining space as this year’s corn takeover scales down by about 400000 bushels. Officials say storage capacity across Wenona Rutland Granville Camp Grove Broadmoor and nearby sites will meet needs with state aid and new facilities.
Marshe all Putnam Fair nears and the Fine Arts Department urges residents to display treasured items from home. Shaving mugs, autograph albums, Majolica, copper and brass, needlework, jewelry, drawings, and craft pieces are welcome, with safe handling and glass cases for perishables. Mrs. George Mathis urges loan of yesterday and today treasures to make the 1955 fair the best yet.
Sparland officials have decided to adopt the month’s extension and keep clocks set to daylight saving time for six more months. Clocks will not be changed until the last of October.
