Mrs Bertha Beisheim Miller aged 83 of Magnolia died peacefully early Sunday August 2 after sleep. Surviving are husband William Miller five children ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral August 4 at Magnolia Methodist Church conducted by Rev A Nothdurft and Rev Dennis Landes with burial at Hope cemetery Lostant.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Hunt of Henr ys were successful bidders when the Harry Talmage house sold at public auction Saturday afternoon. The sale, conducted under master in chancery Robert A Barnes, brought $6180.

Rev and Mrs R W Butler of Varna report their son Robert W Butler II serving with the 65th Engineers Combat battalion in Korea has been promoted to corporal. The unit is attached to the 25th division which has seen considerable service in Korea. Robert has been in Korea since March 1953.
The 1953 Marshall Putnam fair premium books are finished by the Henry News Republican job department. Books contain 154 pages of premium listings rules and ads from area firms. Reserved box seats are on sale through association officers Clarence Stansell McNabb or Halsey Monier.
A Wenona writer recalls a centennial parade that drew over 30 000 residents from nearby towns. Spectators watched oddities from prairie schooners to a Model T float, a goat drawn vehicle, and a dog pulled cart as the Streator American Legion band and the Kewanee Black Knights closed the procession with vivid color and community pride.
Wenona Illinois marked its centennial with a week long celebration culminating in a Sunday parade. About 50 000 spectators observed 170 entries from Bloomington Pontiac Dwight Streator Mendota and nearby towns. J S Thompson of Lacon led a palomino horse in the parade with a silver trappings display.
The United States Treasury announces the appointment of Gerry D Scott Sr of Lacon as bond chairman for Marshall and Putnam counties, succeeding Robert V Dewey of Herby. Scott is president of the First National Bank of Lacon. The News Republican had reported the local appointment weeks earlier.
Illinois Commerce Commission approves rate increases for Middle States Telephone Company of Pekin affecting Lacon area as of August 1. City official notes no new rate schedule received yet. Herman Rinkenberger manager at Bradford airport has secured a new four passenger Piper Tri Pacer. He plans passenger service with trips to Chicago landing at Meigs Field. After six days in Chicago, travelers return to Bradford. The plane travels 120 miles per hour and may be used for small parties to state fairs or fishing trips.

Henry city council voted unanimously to buy a 1953 Ford special police car from Henry Motor Company after bids were opened by deputy city clerk A. B. Chila. The measure uses already appropriated funds and includes a radio and heater with a 125 horsepower engine.
Henry Rotarians toured the new Hennepin plant north of Henry, built by Illinois Power at a cost of about 17 million dollars. More than 60 people attended the picnic and plant visit, escorted by Dewey Helton and Warren Fuller. Generating capacity exceeds 75 000 kilowatts as plans for more units develop, with 800 tons of coal used daily and 2 880 000 gallons of water pumped hourly.
Graveside services for Robert Yarger 61 will be held Thursday at Henry city cemetery after 2 PM at Endsley funeral home Peoria. The death followed a sudden heart attack at his Peoria home Monday night. He is survived by his wife former Rachel Frisbey of Sparland and three daughters.
