Henry Grade School purchased three 66 passenger buses from Sefton Chevrolet. The buses will be used to expand the fleet and improve transportation for students.
Service clerk reports no changes to date in the draft process with calls past 20 awaiting Aug draft. Mrs Gauwitz in Lacon office Monday to Wednesday to relay changes if any. Graftees anxious about status updates as 85 approaches.

Marshall County officials at the courthouse in Lacon report success in collecting delinquent personal property taxes from prior years. Led by the county board of supervisors, with help from the state's attorney Peter Paolucci and county treasurer Inez Peterson, the effort has seen over $900 of $1,000 in the first 25 suits collected.
Mrs Parker Van de Mark arrived from Chicago Saturday evening to stay through Sunday with her father and her sisters Mrs Roy Miller and Mrs John Frederick in a family gathering.
Donald Lindstrom chaired the Varna Rotary meeting on August 3 with guest Ronald Coleson of Home Blower Weeks Hemphill Noyes discussing securities as investment. He warned value trends postwar favor maintaining against inflation and noted only one percent of people are self supporting at 65.

Tribute at Marshall County State Bank Varna marks A R Wright’s long service from cashier 1912 president 1921 and chairman 1946. Board minutes note his banking knowledge and judgment guiding the bank through tough times. Wright died July 3 1965.
A coroner's jury urged warning signs and a lower speed limit on Route 17 the Dike road between Lacon and Sparland after the accidental death of Fred E. Murphy 26 of Chillicothe. The verdict notes road conditions and that signs previously indicating 40 mph were removed. Murphy died July 30 after a crash near the Illinois River bridge west of Lacon following a July 24 incident.
Mrs Grace Petersen of Varna died Tuesday July 27 at Atteberry Nursing Home Washburn. Funeral services were held Friday July 30 at Varna Methodist Church with Rev Howard Wolcott officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Survivors include four sons Austin Ford Forrest Russell a daughter Ruby Keedy sister Jessie Perrson 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral notice ends with gratitude from the family.
Funeral services for Winnie Ruth Brister Brown 48 of Henry were held Tuesday after her sudden death Saturday at home. Officiating was Rev Jerry Elmore. Burial followed at Henry Cemetery with pallbearers from Henry and nearby towns. She was born March 13 1917 in Dry Prong Louisiana and married Bruce A Brown in 1943. Survived by husband five sisters and one brother. preceded in death by parents and a brother.
Henry merchants will wear colorful vests derbies and bow ties for Maxwell Street Day this Saturday Aug 7. The Chamber of Commerce retail committee has 48 hats 52 vests ready for the annual summer sale. Bill Hoscheidt chairs the committee and invites private citizens to donate merchandise. The Chamber also sponsors a baseball excursion to Chicago tomorrow Aug 5 departing Watercott’s lot at 9 a.m. for White Sox vs Yankee game.
Officers Joe Ryan and Harry Davis on duty at once spotted a youth driving recklessly. The man believed he had privacy from police presence, but Davis watched from around the corner. In moments both officers collar him and issue a traffic violation ticket. The incident demonstrates that what you don’t know can still hurt you.
Voters in Magnolia Hennepin Granville will cast ballots Saturday August 7 on forming a single unit district joining nine high and grade school districts. Polling places will operate 12 noon to 7 pm with about 1100 students affected and tax rates proposed at 1.30 educational and 0.25 building per hundred.

About 2000 pounds of pork from twenty 200 pound hogs will be roasted next Sunday August 8 at the Memorial shelter in Hennepin. The fourth annual Hawal al style lunch will run 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A free public dance follows Saturday August 7 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Proceeds fund village beautification.
Mrs. Har ry (Lucy) Bean aged 73 died Monday in Kewanee Public hospital. Funeral 2 p m Wednesday at Dunlap Funeral Home Bradford officiated by Rev. Roland Florence. Burial in Wethersfield Cemetery Kewanee. Survived by daughter Mrs Harold Carter of Tiskilwa grandson great granddaughter sister Mrs Nellie Haver of Kewanee. Formerly a Nebraska teacher.
