John Lou Dies at Tampico and Burial in Henry

John Lou 38 husband of Irma Blumenshine of Henry died at his home in Tampico after months of illness. Services at Tennyies Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. Remains will go to Henry for burial. graveside rites at City Cemetery about four. Survived by wife and two sons Donnie 14 and Tommy 11. Previously lived with mother and her brother William Thielbar.

Varna Well Reaches Depth Near 1900 Feet

The Varna Village well nears completion with depth over 1800 feet and a projected 1900 foot limit based on geology. The St Peter sandstone water bearing stratum was struck at 1759 feet, about 130 feet thick, with two to three fair water yields already passing through. The water level has risen from 246 feet below the surface since the first strike.

St Marys Church society officers and Father Schumacher announce the second annual homecoming at the parish school on Sunday evening August 7. Corn Storage Crunch Prompts Marshall Putnam Meeting

A Marshall Putnam Agricultural Conservation Association committee met at the Farm Bureau building in Henry to plan storage for about 1,265,000 bushels of 1948 corn. With a bumper crop forecast, existing steel bins and elevators will be used, but most farmers may need new storage structures and government loans up to four percent for five years.
