Hofer Lanes, Henrys new eight alley bowling emporium, will open about mid August. Harold and Lee Hofer say installation by American Machine Co engineers is under way and local workers are being used. Bowling leagues form with 14 ladies teams, Tuesday scratch teams, Sportsmens League with 16 teams, and Thursday night league plans. Couples night Fridays already 27 couples booked, 13 places remain.

Promising 10 year old Mickey McGhiey dies in crash near Streator
In a Sunday afternoon collision at the Kangley Road and state highway 18 near Streator, Howard Maurice Mickey McGhiey 10, of McNabb died soon after. His parents Mary and Maurice McGhiey and Susan Hayward 13 were injured, with Susan undergoing head surgery in Chicago. Sidney Hensley 20, of Streator, was charged with running a stop sign. The McGhiey car carried three in the back seat. all were trapped and freed after heavy rescue. Funeral services were held August 3 in Granville for Mickey with interment in Cumberland cemetery.

Grand Champion Steer Won by Kenneth Dietz at Local Fair
Kenneth Dietz of the Saratoga Leadaways 4-H club won the grand champion steer honors at the Marshall Point Town fair with an 1100 pound Hereford bought from Carl Herefords. Dietz, a 1960 Wyoming High School graduate, also claimed earlier reserve and second heavyweights at nearby fairs and plans to take both steers to the state fair.
