Springfield official Schulte reports on Henry Harbor progress with NCWITTONs and Gerri Lacon approving work. State funds from boat licenses to expand the harbor may finance a 36 by 70 foot boat ramp. Mayor Ford says full financing will take time and expects a two year path to completion.
Marshall county official Leo Schumacher of Bell Plain LaRose named field investigator for Illinois Department of Agriculture. Joseph Isnardi Roanoke named supervisor of Occupa tion Sales Tax division. Clifford Tiff LaRose notified of second appointment in Bureau of Weights and Measure to monitor scales and gasoline stations.
Students from Peel area receive scholarships from Henry Senachwine High School for 1961. Recipients include the daughter of Mrs Iszof and the son of Mr and Mrs Daniels of Putnam. Awards cover tuition at Illinois State Normal University.
Henry Motor Co, a local Ford and Mercury dealer, becomes a Comet dealer from Ford Motor Co effective July 1 1961. First Comet arrived in Henry about two weeks ago as the dealership expands to four Ford Motor Company cars Falcon Comet Ford and Mercury. The firm opened a new used car lot at School and Front streets, with Stanley W Stedman and Wallace A Carlson having run the business for about twelve years.
Mr and Mrs Phillip Bischier observed their first wedding anniversary on a quiet Sunday. Tom Olszanowski was noted as a frequent caller at their home during the past week.
Putnam county convention elected the ASC MBE committee on July 28. Delegates include N Wilbert Griffin Arthur O'Brien Burton Henry Arnold Junker with Floyd Stonier as second alternate Emil Capitan Granville John H Whiteker Carroll O Lee Willis Wheeler Joe Lyons and others will serve until Aug 4 1962 or a new committee is chosen.

Frank E. Adams announces Henry Senachwine high opens Friday September 1 with a morning assembly in the auditorium at 8:40. Students will receive assignments on a mock schedule while freshmen require physical exams and athletes must be cleared for sports. Bus arrivals vary with routes and the first teachers meeting is set for Thursday August 31 from 10 am to noon.
John A. McCone former chair of the Atomic Energy Commission told Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduates that ideological and political division requires a ready state of defense against neighboring leaders bent on domination. He warned aggression can take many forms and even a single instantaneous strike could annihilate free society, urging constant alertness and preparedness.
The 1961 Miss County Fair contest in Henry Marshall Putnam opens Monday night with a Jaycee sponsored program. Contestants must be single ages 15 to 21, no professional models. Judging based on beauty 30 percent personality 20 percent form 30 percent poise 20 percent. The winner advances to the State Fair in Springfield next January.
A contest to select Miss County Fair will be held Monday evening August 28 at 8 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Henry.
Miss Bryll Jones of North Wales England will speak at Henry Rotary Club Monday noon August 7 in Walnut. A University of Liverpool graduate, she will share pictures of English farm life. Presentation by Harold Bud Holaway a Walnut resident and local insurance manager.
The Henry Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee outlines three summer initiatives. Free swim for children 12 and under starts this Saturday night at the Henry pool for August. Maxwell Street Day returns on August 19 with all‑day activities. A free rides program for Marshall-Putnam Fair Kids Day will issue tickets through cooperating merchants on a sliding scale.
