Sarah Poarch Whitmer born October 6 1852 in Lacon lived as wife and mother. She married Tobias Whitmer in Lacon and had eight children. She died after a fall fractured hip and nine weeks of suffering at age 75 years 9 months 19 days. Survived by sisters Adelia Olson and Ward Poarch and many grandchildren. Funeral last Friday at 2 30 p m Rev Ivins Chatten officiated with hymns by Rev H G Dusenberry. Interment in cemetery.

Country Woman's Club Picnic At Strawn School Grounds
The Country Woman's club held its annual picnic at Strawn school grounds on Thursday afternoon hosted by Mrs. Lydia Vollenweider with Miss Kathryn Roesch and Mrs. Frances Allen assisting. Twenty-one children attended and guests included Mrs. Henry Leibengut of New York City and her husband, plus Mrs. Joseph Roesch, Mrs. Menard Vollenweider, and Mrs. Paul Spellmetan. The club plans to meet Mrs. Mary Kays on August 9 to discuss Health in the Home.

Happy Hour 4-H Team Wins County Demonstration Contest
The Happy Hour Demonstration team from Bell Plain led by Edna Schumacher won the county contest at Henry High School Tuesday with a sandwich demonstration. They will represent Marshall Putnam counties at the district contest in Pontiac High School on Friday August 3 at 10 00 a m. The winning team could advance to the state fair in Springfield August 18-25 if successful at districts. Leaders Josephine Schumacher and Mrs Otto of Putnam praised the team. Soil Testing Schools Planned for Marshall Putnam Townships
On July 27 soil project leaders from Marshall and Putnam counties met with Professor C. M. Linsley of the University of Illinois to plan a series of soil testing schools.
