Mr and Mrs Walter Rebholz and Miss Patricia Rebholz with Carl Davis of Chicago spent Easter weekend with Lawrence Rybicks family in Burlington Iowa. On Saturday Miss Carole Sue Conway of Monmouth wed Randall Kent Himmel of Peoria at Monmouth with a reception after.
Francis McEvoy and Helen Kunkel joined a governors conference on manpower at Pere Marquette Hotel Peoria. Gov Otto Kerner spoke on Manpower Policy for Illinois Now and Tomorrow noting prior growth created a statewide job shortage and urging continued training in high schools preparatory colleges and for filling open jobs with renewed emphasis on vocational training.
Mr and Mrs Elgin Ross of Springfield joined Friday to Sunday guests at the Robert Ross home for a family no host dinner hosted by Robert Springer in Peoria Easter Sunday. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Robert Ross and daughter. Ben Schupbach and family Edelstein, Ronald Lindley and daughter Connie, and Francis Foley family Camp Grove visited the Dwane Shurts family Sunday evening. Dorothy Ann Foley remained at the Shurts home through today Wednesday.
The American Legion hosts a zoning hearing for Henry city to discuss a proposed ordinance. The plan divides the city and nearby area into three districts downtown commercial depot commercial and residential zones extending 1½ miles beyond the city limits with permits required for design changes.
Ninety Henry grade school students depart Henry Illinois early Saturday morning April 16 1966 under science teacher David Drake for a day trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago The schedule includes stops for meals a sack lunch and a return to Henry with chaperones listed and a note for students to represent their town with courtesy.
Farmers in Henry rally to till 70 acres for Mrs. Charles Schubert after the loss of her husband in Sparland. Harold Shearer Art O Brien Bill Cutter led volunteers. 28 machines worked from noon to 2:30 pm, followed by meals and refreshments as neighbors pitched in.
At a regular meeting the Putnam County Community Unit District 535 board canvassed April school election votes. Dr R M Germano won 457 votes and Edward Coss 448, both reelected. Germano reappointed president and Mrs Caroline Walters secretary. Graduation dates were set for Hennepin May 31 Magnolia-Swaney June 2 Hopkins June 3. Germano to present diplomas. James DeBates to become business manager July 1 discussed transportation and summer maintenance.
Dinner guests of Mrs. Garnet Wright and family included her brother and family Mr and Mrs Bob McGinnis and Colleen of Chillicothe. Mrs Roy F Steele attended funeral services for W E Turnbull of Elmira a cousin of John D Turnbull at Elmira United Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon.
Rev Gene Landis formerly of the Henry News Republic office and Putnam Christian church preached at Putnam last week. He and his family of five live in Cincinnati preparing to go to Africa as a missionary in the printing field for the African Christian Mission. The Congo conditions will determine his station and they plan to study French in Belgium or France before sailing. They expect to be assigned near Elisabethville to print Swahili materials for use by missionaries. Meanwhile he uses Cincinnati printing equipment to aid field missionaries and to solicit funds for gear and supplies.
Mr and Mrs Alfred Whettal shared a dinner and day with the Norman Zook family near Washburn on Sunday.
Henry city council approved a new subdivision ordinance for tracts over two acres. The proposer pays engineering costs, street and alley standards, street widths, curbs, water mains, bonds, and reimbursements for extensions with set rates and requirements.
At a Monday board session Chester Morine was named chairman succeeding Edgar Read. Dr A B Pletsch Julius Hansen and Read were named chairs of county park board court house and grounds and Read respectively. Vacancies on planning commission and housing authority were noted for filling next meeting. The board also set minimum mileage for zoning board members and considered purchasing a 40 acre tract in Magnolia township for conservation.
The Putnam Telephone company board and stockholders will meet Saturday April 16 at 7 30 p m in Senachwine town hall Putnam Ray Madsen president will conduct the session Expansion measures are to be discussed Also mentioned Mrs Don Quimby and daughter Carol returned to 1 8 0 in Normal after spring vacation spent at home.
City treasurer reports April 1 1966 balances in Henry funds. Refuse disposal fund paid 644 to Joe Canovi for work on old dump site east of the river. Transfer of 824.50 from refuse to Henry Disposal fund covers December garbage service. After transfers, Henry Disposal fund at 2474.00 and Refuse Disposal at 3390.26. Alderman Rose moves 3000 water revenue bond payment due May 1 1966, total 4105 with interest. Remaining bonds: 31000 to retire after 1966. 3000 due 1967 and 4000 annually through 1974. Bond rate 3 percent vs current market around 6 percent.
The public party planned for this Saturday night has been postponed due to a conflict of dates with other events. The affair will be re scheduled at a later date. Mr and Mrs Howard D Anderson and the Stanley Wright family of rural Bradford, went to the David Wright home near Bradford for dinner Easter Sunday.
At an organization meeting the Henry Consolidated Grade School board reelected Charles Cooper as president and Leo Quinn as secretary. Lewis Campbell was reelected treasurer and Henry State Bank named as depository. Non-teaching staff receive yearly raises from 90 to 200 dollars. Regular meetings are the second Monday each month at 7:30 p.m. standard time or 8 p.m. daylight time.
Duane Sefton starts work this week on a 12 lot subdivision on the former Roy Martin property at the northwest edge of Henry. The council has not yet approved a plat. The plan includes a 30 ft city dedication for Lincoln street extension and Sunset Drive through the subdivision with underground utilities.
