Seignour Adams Oakley editor in chief of the Peoria Evening Star died suddenly at his Peoria home on Monday afternoon from a heart attack at age 68. Funeral services were held Wednesday at his residence with Dr. Wm. F. Shaw officiating. Oakley began at the Star after Eugene Baldwin’s death, served on the staff since 1905, and previously worked for the Peoria Herald-Transcript as reporter and later city editor. He was highly respected across Peoria and central Illinois.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church for Mrs William M Mercer who died Thursday after a brief illness of gallstones and complications. The Rev J A Johnson officiated and burial was in Fatgame cemetery with Royal Neighbors at the grave. She was born Minnie Ballard in Kansas on July 20 1871 and had lived in Illinois 46 years. Survived by her husband two daughters Mabel Jenner and Myrtle Moore and several grandchildren. Attendees from distance included Jenner of Buda Moore of Princeton Simpkins Funderberg and Brady families.
