Holy week observances mark the Passion and death of the Lord with Holy Thursday Good Friday Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday services in Henry County churches celebrating Christ rising from the tomb.
Holy Week observances are held at St John s Episcopal Church with a Watch before the Altar of Repose today On Good Friday morning the Mass of the Pre Sanctified Veneration of the Cross and Stripping of the Altar occur at 730 am The Passion is preached from noon to eight pm Evening prayers and penitential office at 730 pm Easter Day Masses at 630 and 1100 am Easter music will be sung all are welcome especially on Good Friday.
The Easter program at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday April 4 at 7 30 p m features hymns responsive readings and recitations led by Jean Baker Opal Keenan Marian Wireman Jesse Onyon Betty Williams and others with an Easter message The Risen Christ in the Philippines and offerings for Sunday schools of the Philippines are included and Rev Gibbins gives the prayer.
St Marys Church announces Easter week services with Maundy Thursday High Mass at 8 00 a m followed by procession and adoration then devotions and sermon at 7 80 p m Good Friday ceremonies begin 9 00 a m with Mass of the Presanctified Stations at 3 00 p m and devotions at 7 30 p m Holy Saturday 7 00 a m blessing of fires Easter candle and baptismal water then Mass Butter Sunday Masses at 8 09 a m and 10 00 a m after the Holy Mass benediction ends.

Survived by wife Margaret Sculley and nine children, 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Funeral at St Josephs Church Friday at 10, interment in St Patricks Cemetery. Rev M J Brennan to lead.
A quiet home wedding took place at 2 PM Thursday as Mrs Annie Winkel married Edgar Schumacher. Rev Kluxmann of Trinity Lutheran officiated with Mrs C F Schumacher and Otto Schumacher as witnesses. The couple plans to reside in Schumacher's central LaRose home.
The News-Republican reported Dr Charles Kennison of Chicago died at a Milwaukee sanitarium. Nurse Katheryn Vogelsang says Mrs Kennison died, with funeral held last Friday. Survived by daughter Mrs Ephram Townley of Paris. Burial in Chicago. estate left to the daughter.
Ben R. Nichols and Rodney Turner refused to qualify for town offices and were replaced by Charles Holt for Town Clerk and E. C. Goebel for Justice of the Peace at the Republican Township caucus. Ballot names otherwise unchanged from last week.

Leonard Nauman Sr. age 74 4 months 9 days died of pneumonia at home five miles west of Metamora last Saturday night after a recent hospital stay. Born in Baden Germany he came to the US at 18 and settled in Metamora. Survived by wife Mary A. Reising and children eight grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral was held at St Marys Metamora with pallbearers and burial nearby. A J Nauman and Dorothy attended.
The Home Bureau invites women and friends to a paint demonstration by William Tripe of Peoria in the Home Bureau office on Saturday afternoon April 3 at 3 o clock. Attendees will learn the latest painting methods.

Judge and Mrs. W J McAllister of Slayton Minnesota celebrated their golden wedding on March 4 a public reception followed at the Presbyterian church parlors They were wed at Wenona at the home of the bride s parents Mr and Mrs Southwell They lived near Wenona until 1883 then moved to Slayton They have six children five living one died in infancy The groom has long served the community and held public office He is a brother of Charles McAllister of Henry
George E. Somers of Peoria wins a three year fight to save his 160 acre Stark county farm near Castleton from foreclosure for a 20000 debt tied to grain market speculation. County Judge W W Wright, as special master in chancery, found the deals gambling transactions and void, a ruling sustained by Judge Neihaus last week.
Mrs Harvey Hunter of Buda died Saturday morning after a two year illness from apo plexy. Her husband and two sons survive. Funeral services were held at Buda Monday with interment in Henry Cemetery.
The Fidelity class of the M E church will hold its regular meeting on the evening of April 9 at the home of Mrs C M Nielsen. Hostesses will be Mrs Nielsen as chairman and Misses Ardis Drake Lila Clark Myrle Hoffman and Alma Broaddus.
A severe blizzard hit the region this week bringing deep drifts of four to seven feet and around fourteen inches of snow. Mail and train services were not severely disrupted, but many roads became impassable and travel hindered across the area.
George Burt Sr retired newspaper man celebrated a long life at a public reception in Marshall county. Held 2 to 6 p m at the Brokaw home, attendees included Burt family members and friends from Savanna and nearby areas. The Misses Corinne Newhalfen and Irene Hofer hosted a miscellaneous shower Thursday evening at Corinne Newhalfen’s home for Magella Peterman who will marry Louis B. Newhalfen. Charles P Kennell, manager of the Camp Grove elevator, received word yesterday morning of his mother's death in Lostant from pneumonia and heart trouble. The funeral will probably be held Friday.
Dr and Mrs D E Bost of LeRoy welcomed a baby daughter on March 21 named Shirley Jean. Mother and child are in a Bloomington hospital and both are progressing nicely.
The Henry Red Cross chairman calls a meeting of all members for next Tuesday after noon April 6 at 4 o'clock in the community room. The session was postponed from last Tuesday due to weather.
The case centered on Mona Shay's death near Edelstein with Harold Medearis as a suspect. Medearis claimed he traveled to Peoria and stayed at the Court Hotel before Palm Sunday, meeting Mona after 8:30 pm but says he saw her two weeks earlier and found she was not at Alva Phillips' farm Sunday night. Authorities remain unsure of a concrete cause of death amid lack of visible injuries.
The Putnam County Sunday School Institute for Workers in the Children and Young People's Divisions will meet at the Evangelical church in Granville on April 7. Mrs. Freda Marshall, a former Sparland resident, died Tuesday morning in Peoria at her son E. A. Kline's home after a second stroke six weeks earlier. Funeral services were held at the Sparland Baptist church with burial in the Lacon mausoleum.
Grant Davis of La Rose and Miss Marie Huls of Toluca were married at the Congregational parsonage in Lacon on Monday afternoon by Rev D. G. Davies. Attendants were the groom’s sister in law Opal Davis and Mrs D G Davies.
