Tankage and corn feed profitability questions in farming markets
The piece discusses whether tankage and cottonseed meal remain profitable with corn prices around 60 cents a bushel. It notes tankage costs about 90.60 per ton and protein yields from corn, urging balanced rations for pregnant and young stock. It covers Wisconsin road improvement findings and Farm Bureau talks on road patrol maintenance, road materials, and insect control, linking farm economics to broader infrastructure and prices. It cites speakers at Granville and remarks on grain prices impacting tenants and marketing systems.
Horse shortages loom in Marshall Putnam farms as horse breeding stalls
Illinois survey from the Illinois Agricultural Association and Farm Bureaus shows 545 horses on 57 Putnam farms and 4423 on 514 Marshall farms. Across 32 515 Illinois farms in 43 counties the total horse count reaches 238 646. With 465 412 brood mares producing 8 918 colts in the quarter ending July 1 1920 and an average horse age of 13 years a shortage of good farm horses is forecast unless colt output doubles. Continued inactivity may worsen the situation.
