Hendersonville veteran groups push memorial access amid shutdown
Hendersonville founder of HonorAir, Jeff Miller, sought National Park Service permission to let about 350 World War II veterans enter the National World War II Memorial in Washington during a government shutdown. Officials offered no clear approval, and barriers and police tape blocked access as media swarmed. Miller moved a barricade with Michele Bachmann present, while NPS lawyers advised applying for a permit citing First Amendment rights to assemble to discuss the memorial’s closing.
