Norafin to Open North American Plant in Mills River

Norafin Industries, a German maker of specialty spunlace nonwovens, will hire 46 employees in late 2017 and start production by mid-2018 at a 75,000 square foot facility on a 14 acre site on School House in Mills River. The $18.1 million plant will serve existing clients, expand into new markets, and support future growth, with the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development leading the project. Norafin, established in 1980 in East Germany and headquartered in Mildenau since 1997, has an Asheville sales presence and aims to supply heat and flame resistance barriers for protective apparel and other industrial, medical, and filtration markets. The site work begins in early 2017, followed by vertical construction and eventual production.

Commissioners weigh litigation over school construction

At a board meeting the commissioners discussed pursuing a lawsuit to assert the School Board's authority in building Edneyville Elementary and Hendersonville High schools. One member urged avoiding litigation as a last resort and pushing for face to face talks with county officials to solve funding and construction issues. County Manager Steve Wyatt echoed that litigation would be counterproductive, stressing cooperation and finding a workable financial plan.
