Duke plan to replace coal plant with gas near Asheville
Area leaders praise Duke Energy plan to shut Asheville’s Lake Julian coal plant and replace it with a 650 MW natural gas facility plus on-site solar. The project includes a $320 million transmission substation near Campobello and a 40 mile 230 kV line, creating about 800 construction jobs in 2017 2019 and boosting tax revenues.
