Henderson County Sheriff McDonald wins Republican nod

Henderson County Sheriff Charlie McDonald fended off two veteran opponents to capture the Republican nomination. The incumbent, who has led the county for just over two years, secured 50.3 percent of the vote to beat Michael Brown and Lee Sheriff as all precincts reported. He will face Democrat Marty Katz in November for a four year term in a county that has not elected a Democrat countywide in 12 years. McDonald is expected to be the favorite in a GOP stronghold boosted by anti Hagan sentiment.
