Firefighters rehearse wildfire response with nine agencies
Nine county and state agencies trained at Mills River Volunteer Fire Department for a mock wildfire exercise. Participants tracked the fire, planned crew deployment, and adapted to wind shifts and traffic. Mountain Home Fire Department captain Jason Justus noted using topo maps for firebreaks and discussed project fire activation and multi-agency coordination. The drill aligned with wildfire season and included Mills River, Dana, Edneyville, Mountain Home, Hendersonville, Green River, Valley Hill, Saluda, Etowah Horse Shoe, Rescue Squad, Red Cross, sheriff’s office and the state Forest Service.
