Henderson County tax base soars amid quadrennial reappraisal
Tax Assessor Darlene Burgess reported Henderson County's overall property tax base rose to 13.5 billion, up 2 billion from 11.45 billion before 2019 reappraisal. The increases affect August tax bills and reflect a hot housing and building market with 68 000 parcels assessed and a 32 percent building permit rise since 2015. Downtown Hendersonville up 42 percent, Historic Seventh Avenue District 29.5 percent, and other towns showing double digit gains.

Small Business Health Care Act proposed by North Carolina senators
State Sen. Chuck Edwards and three colleagues announced the Small Business Health Care Act to loosen restrictions on Association Health Plans. They say it would help small businesses offer affordable employee health insurance with protections including coverage for preexisting conditions. The proposal cites a June 2018 Labor Department ruling as precedent.
