Edneyville lab now handles 40 counties under state crime safety plan

In 2013 state Sen. Tom Apodeca sponsored funding for a new crime lab on the Edneyville campus of the Western North Carolina Justice Academy. Opened in 2017, the facility serves 40 counties with a staff of 40 and processes 13,297 case records across forensic biology firearms latent evidence toxicology and drug chemistry, about a third of statewide cases.
