Elk roams from Great Smoky Mountains to Waynesville area
Local residents spotted a young elk near Laurel Park and a technician saw the same bull near Fox Wood. Wildlife biologists trace the three year old from Maggie Valley, crossing the mountains toward Waynesville and Etowah. Reasons for leaving a herd remain unclear but such moves by young bulls occur.
