Flat Rock Book Exchange lifeline kept by volunteers
Jinny Bell, manager and longtime volunteer, keeps the Flat Rock Book Exchange open in the historic 1844 building. The Ladies Aid Society at St. John in the Wilderness started the free and discount book effort in 1980 to aid charity, with Bell noting low prices, organized shelves, and a trash duty on Tuesdays. The shop, at 2680 Greenville Highway, operates 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday, with a 2012 donation total of 16000 to various charities including Hendersonville Rescue Mission and Backpack Program.
