Playground Noise Study Finds Moderate Levels Near Homes

A BRRC report from Asheville measured playground noise on Saturday June 18 using meters at a playground and two nearby homes. With a wind average of 2.3 knots, the study found an average of 19 people at the site, mostly children, while home noise included birds and distant traffic. Researchers note occasional child screams can be disruptive but not a major driver of overall levels, and options like tunnel capping, buffers, screens, or limited hours were proposed. BRAC senior scientist Josh Mellon favored no further action according to Don Farr.

Pavilion named for Flat Rock mayor Staton amid park funding

The Park at Flat Rock pavilion, a $252000 project, is named for Mayor Robert V. Staton after a donor contributed 75000. The council approved the foundation’s recommendation, noting Staton’s leadership in making the park possible and his community service and refusal of village pay.
