City snow clearing focuses on downtown and 7th Avenue Districts
City crews remove snow from the downtown business district and the Historic Seventh Avenue District using a John Deere tractor and a Kubota, with larger equipment for major storms. Other sidewalks are not treated, and no sand or ice melt is applied outside these areas. Downtown owners fund the extra service through higher taxes, while ordinance rules on sidewalk clearing are not enforced. Local landfill solar plans are not pursued due to leachate management and cap maintenance.
