Three new trustees joined Blue Ridge Community College Board this summer. Dr Janice C King and Mike Hawkins will serve four year terms while Alfred F Platt Jr takes a two year post to fill an unexpired seat.
The Emporium on Main at 5,700 square feet on South Main Street launches with 45 vendors on the main floor offering home goods gifts apparel handmade jewelry antiques and more. Free on site parking and a Wednesday soft opening precede Apple Festival tastings and October lower level shops with over 40 vendors plus artists spaces.
Craven and Caskey push to use fund balance to cover meals for one year, with the board endorsing free meals as long as feasible. The district joins the Community Eligibility Provision, which reimburses via a needs-based formula. Henderson County isn’t fully funded but will receive enough CEP support to cover the shortfall this year.
