Villa Montana and Erle Stillwell Legacy Highlight Hendersonville
Villa Montana, also known as Villa Montana, stands as a Stillwell designed 1924 residence for Frank A. Ewbank, with the Ewbank name on Hendersonville’s Main Street building. Architect Erle Stillwell shaped homes, schools, and theaters across the South, running a 60 year practice ending in 1971. Villa Montana is now owned by Alice M. Peschl, granddaughter of Ewbank’s era, who recalls Swiss memories and family ties to the home place. A book by William Mitchell on Stillwell’s work is in the county library. News notes cover a Triangle Stop gas project on NC 280 near Asheville Regional Airport, a diverging diamond interchange on Airport Road, and the new Apple Tree Honda dealer on Underwood Road, expected open by Labor Day.
