Between 60 and 75 persons were injured when a grandstand collapsed at Central High School's football field in Columbus during a game between Youngstown Chaney and Columbus Central. About 3,000 spectators were present. 26 were hospitalized with cuts and bruises. The game resumed after victims were removed.
Grand Rapids, Sept 26 The Michigan Republican state convention endorsed a platform stressing immigration restriction until unemployment falls an endorsement of old age pensions and a tariff on copper while declaring prohibition not a political issue. The Democrats favor a national referendum on prohibition and a subs eet.
Nanking reports Chiang Kai-shek led Nationalist troops to a broad victory over Northern Alliance rebels across Henan province, driving them back toward Chengchow as civil war turmoil and famine persist. In other news, George Hosafield of Paterson and Stella Willing of Brooklyn retained world typing titles in Richmond contest finals.

HavreMontana Sept 26 a gasoline price war touched local stations. One selling point cut retail price from 27 5 8 cents to 24 cents a gallon while a rival countered with a 24 cent offer. The skirmish reflected similar moves in several Montana cities.
Seven believed drowned when the barge Salvor capsized in a gale off Muskegon Michigan. Two bodies washed ashore and the crew, including two women, were saved or in hospital in exhausted condition. Lyman Nadeau and Lonnie Olmstead are named among the dead. More details continued on page 10.

A Dry conference spokesman cited GOP convention friction and repeal aims as blocking support for any current slate. Several organizations attended the session to discuss strategy.
DuQuein ML Sept 26 United Coal and Electric Mine No 11 near here the largest strip mine in the world saw a riot as miners backing the Howat Flah Wick United Mine Workers clashed with John L Lewis faction members. Two men were knifed and many hurt in fights though no serious injuries or arrests were reported.
Malta Montana Special voters condemn interference by Moses Grundy and Watson in selecting a senator and expect a large victory for Walsh. Governor Erickson defends Walsh against charges of neglecting Montana and touts tariff protections. Walsh argues the St Lawrence waterway will aid farmers. The delegation, including Havre Democrats and railroad men, toured Chinook Harlem and Dodson, meeting landowners near Chinook irrigation extension and forwarding a telegram to Elwood Mead about construction charges.
Butte reports 66 year old Richard Sullivan formerly a miner who had moved from Salt Lake City drank pordon on a vacant lot in front of bystanders and died later at a hospital. The incident occurred Sept 26.
A Spokane to St. Paul air route faced a four hour delay due to strong winds. The pilot departed from Spokane, lost the course between Butte and Billings, and the plane did not reach Miles City until after 5 pm.
A group of youths imprisoned several children for 46 hours in a vacant house basement, then released them after their parents and police intervened. Officers say details match the first confession, aided by witnesses including Myers’s landlady and her daughter, plus a neighbor. Prosecutor Harry Taylor says evidence will Go to a grand jury next Wednesday.
Idaho Public Utilities Commission announced it intervened in a case by Wyoming oil companies seeking lower rates on gasoline and oil shipped into Montana. The move aims to establish a basis for potential lower freight rates into Idaho. A hearing is set for Helena on September 29.

Geneva Sept 26 The League of Nations disarmament committee urged a general disarmament conference in 1981 but stopped short of directing the council to summon a conference within a fixed year The panel said it is possible to convene a broad conference by 198? and noted the preparatory disarmament commission would finish Nov. 3 clearing the way for a wider gathering to address the problem of elimination of armaments.
