Chicago September 25 Expressions of nearly one million railroad employees who voted to decide whether to call a nationwide strike or accept a 15 percent wage reduction were in the hands of the railroad brotherhoods. Canvassers for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trammen representing about 140,000 operating workers neared completion of the vote tabulation, with a formal result expected tomorrow afternoon from A. F Whitney, the brotherhood head.
Geneva dispatch reports Soviet Russia intends to press Britain and France to aid Czechoslovakia through the League of Nations. Manny Litvinoff warned that Prague would appeal to the league if London seeks further concessions to Germany. A Russian diplomat said such an appeal could force Britain and France to air the matter publicly under Article 17. Titvinoff also called on British official Richard Austen Butler at his hotel.
Warsaw reports the Czechoslovak government would consent in principle to discuss Poland's territorial claims after Poland presented a demand for Polish inhabited areas in Czechoslovakia. Clashes were reported along the border as Czechoslovakia mobilized and Poles attempted to cross into Poland.

Port Peck Sept 26 Two government soil experts joined army engineers to study possible causes of an earth slide at the Fort Peck dam on the Missouri which killed several people. Army engineers including Col Starvant and William Gerig arrived to expand the inquiry as bodies of seven victims were being searched. The damaged $100000 dam was not yet priced, with rebuilding plans deferred until the investigation concludes. Normal work continued at reduced pace.
Paris Sept 26 The French cabinet united in rejecting Reichsfuehrer Hitler’s memorandum demanding rapid occupation of Sudetenland without frontier guarantees. Daladier and Bonnet fly to London to confer with British ministers while France sticks to three points from the peace plan: cession of Sudetenland sections with German majorities, international disposition of mixed areas, and guarantees from Britain France Germany and others for new Czechoslovak frontiers.
